Emily's POV

The empty sidewalks of the road from my office window in the Designers' Hub suddenly seemed like the most interesting thing to me as I thought deeply about how to get Max out of jail.

I recalled my discussion with the officers in charge of his case a few days back after my visit to him.

(Flashback)

"Officer, please, this man is innocent. He is in jail for what he knows nothing about. Eric Wilson, the man who accused him, practically forgave him of the debt years back," I explained to the sighing official who just rubbed an impatient hand across his brows as he stared at me.

"Ms., I need you to understand that this is a critical case. Perhaps, you could ask your boyfriend if he has any documented evidence against Mr. Wilson's accusation. That could do him good—"

"But he has none! They were supposed to be best friends," I exclaimed, feeling my frustration rolling off me like a steaming rock.
