Chapter 04

I was at a loss for words with what he just said. It was not because Julian had indeed probably sold me to him but the fact that he actually had the audacity to place a cheap value on me. As an immortal, no amount of human money or wealth could ever buy me. The shamelessness of this man was astonishingly annoying. He may be a man whose good looks could turn the heads of women and whose voice could make them obey whatever he said, but it was not even enough for me to be happy with.

Clutching at my purse, I snatched the pepper spray and threw it right at him before running to the streets. It was a good thing that it was already night time or else I might be running on hot ground… that would be torture.

Taking a quick look behind me, I saw him just standing in front of the gate so I stuck out my tongue at him. I turned my attention back on the way and simply followed where the street was leading me because, in truth, I had no idea where I was supposed to go. I did not even know the direction where the bar was at. If only Julian told me that I would end up being offered such a ridiculous proposal, I would have never accepted this job of being an escort. Probably, dancing on that stage was much better… not really though.

Almost out of breath, I slowed down to have a quick rest. I looked behind me again and there was no one running after me. What a relief to escape from a psychotic man. Oh, heavens! His dashing look was a total waste on him with how bad he was. Taking a few deep breaths, I looked around me and noticed that there were no houses in this area. Only the street lights had given this lonely street a little life at this time of the night.

On the sides of the street were pure green grasses and quite a lot of trees beyond. Was that guy up to something shady that he chose to live in such a remote neighborhood? Well, he was a man with bad character so I guess he was much better off to be in this kind of place.

Having enough rest, I started to walk forward again. With a grimace, I stared at the seemingly unending columns of streetlights. I just hoped that I would find a kind person to bring me back to Julian’s bar. Letting out a heavy sigh, I still strode forward because that was the better choice I had at the moment. Going back to that mansion would only be a complete nightmare. But what would I do if that person was actually the vessel of Arsen? I mean… my grandmother said that there was no specific way to know where Arsen’s soul had gone into. She only stated that if I meet that human vessel, I would be able to know that it was him or her who contained my lover’s soul.

I could not help but stomp my foot on the ground with the frustration building up inside me. If only mother had told me that she was not in favor of Arsen, we could have talked it out. She just went and kept it to herself and even cast a spell on him to cancel our wedding.

I stopped in my tracks and looked up at the moonless sky.

“Mother! If you are looking at me right now, I hope you go and cancel your spell! Do you really want me to get involved with a man like Mr. Ryso?” I yelled as if my mother was just above me.

I hoped Forsterite was looking at the magical waters and was looking after me. For sure, she would try her best and convince mother to take back her spell and let me be with Arsen again.

“Hey, miss!”

Hearing a man’s voice literally made me freeze in place. That was not Mr. Ryso since his voice was not as husky as he was so I looked in front of me. A few feet away from where I stood, there was a man leaning on his car.

“Need a ride?” he asked as he pointed at his car. It was not the same as the car of Mr. Ryso since its roof was higher.

Anyway, I walked towards him and told him that I was indeed in need of a ride back to Julian’s bar. I was elated that he agreed to take me there but before I could enter his car, he cleared his throat as if there was something else he needed to say.

“Before I take you there, why don’t we enjoy the night first, huh?” A playful smirk was plastered across his face so I was unsure by what he meant.

“We should really get going. There are no stars to enjoy tonight. Look at how cloudy it is.”

He walked towards me, eyeing me from head to toe while licking his lower lip. From that alone, I finally understood what he meant so I took a few steps back.

“Sir, I am sorry but I really should get going now.”

Without waiting for his reply, I started to run away again but a scream escaped my mouth when I felt his hands around my abdomen.

“We did not even start anything yet. So why don’t we change that scream of yours into moans of pleasure, huh?” He was a pervert! He was a freaking pervert!

I tried to hit him with my elbows so he could let go of me and when I managed to escape from his grasp, I threw my purse on his face and started to run. How did this night even turn into a nightmare? If only I had known that this would happen, I should have just stayed on that stage and danced since Milan would be there to back me up when I am in trouble. For heaven’s sake, let me get away from this pervert!

If only I could use my powers, if only it would not backfire on me, I could just toast this man away and let him face the death he deserved! I knew I was running as fast as I could but how can he still catch me?

“Let me go!” I screamed at the top of my lungs but the very next second, my screams simply turned into a muffled voice.

The pervert just covered my mouth with his filthy hands and what really scared me to death was the moment he touched my chest. I was in shock that I stood frozen like a statue unable to move. I could feel him grope me all over while his tongue ran over my bare shoulder.

“S-Stop it…” I could not even manage to let out a scream. My voice sounded so weak and I had never felt this vulnerable before.

Should I just use my power and endure the backfire on me later? Maybe… maybe I should just do that rather than let this lowly human harass me.

My tears damped my cheeks as I opened my palm to summon my power. But before I could do that, a familiar figure appeared behind the human pervert and with much force, Mr. Ryso grabbed the man away from me. It took me a millisecond to cover my exposed chest and bite down my lower lip to stop the sobs that were urging to escape.

I turned away from them as I dropped to the ground, hugged my knees, and burrowed my face in my arms. Today was just a horrible day! I was almost taken advantage of and even though I was saved by the man who took me here, for sure, he would ask for something in return.

Hearing them exchanging punches made me cover my ears and repeatedly whispered that this would be over as soon as possible. I was just there on the ground covering myself and crying my heart out. To think that an immortal would be turned into a weakling by a human was just pathetic. I just hoped that no immortal could see me like this.

After a while, the two men behind me went quiet and I was too afraid to even look back. I was too chickened out to find out who among them won because either way, it would be bad for me in the end.

“You should have returned to the mansion,” Mr. Ryso said.

He was just rubbing it on my face that if I just stayed in his place, nothing could have happened. He should also think that I would not have run out if he did not force his proposal on me. Before I could protest, I swallowed my words back when he put his white dress shirt around me.

“Button it up to cover yourself.”

I did what he just told me but even though I was all covered up, I could still feel my hands shaking. I hid it away from him, clasping my hands together. It was to avoid him thinking of trying to use this opportunity and make me agree with his unbelievable proposal.

Looking back at him, he was already on his motorcycle shirtless and was staring back at me.

“Are you coming with me or not?” he asked with impatience very evident in his tone of voice.

“Are you going to insist that proposal on me again if I go with you?”

“Probably but that would be on another time when you are that return to being that brave woman who dared talk back to me.”

I pursed my lips because my tears were once again urging to drop on my cheeks. How could this man turn into a gentleman when was just being pushy a while ago? I clutched at the hem of his dress shirt as I walked towards him. I got on the motorcycle behind him and was hesitant to put my hands on him because his skin was just bare.

“If I were you, I would hold onto me or I will fall and break my skull,” he said as he looked at his side.

I gulped and hesitantly put my arms around his torso. I could feel his warmth around me and it was super mega awkward. But it seemed like I was the only one who felt that way because this man in front of me did not seem to pay much attention to how close we were. When his motorcycle started to return to the mansion, I could not really appreciate the wind blowing through my hair because I was too distracted by his vanilla scent. But just like the very first minute we met, there was just a very faint smell of peppermint on him.

Could it really be that he was the human vessel of Arsen?
