'Please don’t go, Alana. Don’t do this.' His words still echoed in my ears even after we were long gone, causing tears to gather in my eyes, but I blinked them back. I couldn’t cry now; it would all be in vain.

After holding on for so long, I finally succeeded. For years, I had been haunted by the ghost of his rejection, a specter that loomed over me, casting a shadow on my every thought and action.

I had held on to the hope that our bond, no matter how fragile, could still be saved and that the love we once shared could be reawakened. But it was not until I saw the desperation in his eyes—the desperation that drove him to beg for my forgiveness—that I realized the truth.

Kai, the man I had once loved more than life itself, was not the same man who stood before me today. If only he had fought for me and our children with the same passion he was now using to plead for my mercy, perhaps things would have been different. But it's too late. The damage has already been done.
