I felt a storm rise within my chest when I looked behind Gabriel and found Alpha Kai standing there. I didn’t need to be told to realize how angry he was because I could already feel it in his dominating presence.

Kai closed the distance between us in a heartbeat, his hands immediately pulling Gabriel's stiff posture off me.

“How dare you lay a hand on my mate?" Kai’s expression was twisted with rage I’d never seen before. The heat from his body vibrated like one from a furnace.

Gabriel stammered out a reply as he cowered in his presence. "Forgive me, Alpha. This was just a misunderstanding.”

My heart sank with fright. Fear for what he might say next keeps me paralyzed on the ground. Nonetheless, I braced myself, afraid Gabriel might tell Kai the whole truth right then and there, but anything else he was going to say was cut short as Kai gripped his neck, lifting him off the ground.
