Chapter 2

Lyra’s POV

I chuckled, almost certain that I didn’t hear him correctly.

“I reject you, Lyra Octavia, as my mate and Luna.” He pronounced, pointing at me with his index finger.

I gasped as the excruciating pain ripped through my heart. I clutched my chest, feeling the piercing pain burn my heart. My wolf, Imogene, whimpered in pain. It’s breaking her too. I didn’t know rejection hurts like hell. It’s fucking heartbreaking, especially from someone you love. It felt like something inside me was being torn and ripped apart.

“No you can’t do this Luca,” I muttered as tears threatened to fall off my eyes.

“You are no longer my mate. I have found the woman of my dreams,” he said, his voice filled with no emotion.

I got up from the chair where I was seated and gazed at the man I love with all I have breaking my heart into tiny pieces.

“Luca?” I managed to say, finally finding my voice after a moment of speechlessness.

Tears were slowly streaming down my face, betraying the emotions I tried so hard to hide. I felt my wolf, Imogene talking to me. She is trying to console me and help me get through the rejection. She is the only one I have left.

“What have I done wrong?” I cried out from where I was. “After all I have done for you. You can’t just wake up and choose to reject me after all these years,” I said, expecting to get a response from him but he was silent.

He clambered down from the stage where he was and walked towards me. “I do not love you, all this was just fantasy. You had your fun, so do I,” he said with a cold voice.

“I don’t believe you,” I said, fixing my gaze at him in disbelief.

“You have to,” there was a sly smile on his lips. It was as though he was enjoying this. “You will be fine. Trust me,”

With these words, he faced the wolves who were still looking surprised. I guess they didn’t see that coming.

What would they have done?

No one dares to stand against him.

“Who is she? Who is the woman you chose over me?” I questioned with tears in my eyes as he gave me a sly smile.

“You should get ready to vacate the pack. You are no longer welcome in this place,”

I chuckled in disbelief and stood from my feet but my legs couldn’t bear my weight.

I was in shock.

“Selene”

In the whole of Duskfire, I only know of two Selene. My maid and the Chief’s daughter

Was it_?

“No, this can’t be true,” I cried out when I got the most shocking news when Selene, my maid walked up to the stage.

“You bastard!” I wanted to walk up to him and give him a sounding slap that might bring him back to his senses but was held back by one of the guards.

“This is my mate. The Luna to be!”

“All hail the Luna!” a voice said from the crowd and other wolves got on their feet to hail Selene who clamped her hand around Luca’s.

How could she? How can a woman I called my friend do this to me?

“You will pay for this, I will not stop until I’m done with you,” I cried out with the last resilience in me.

“Take her away! I have a wedding ritual to carry out before the moon arrives,” he said and left the field with Selene.

The men yanked me out of the field, while I cried out with every ounce of strength in me. I struggled and let go of their grip and ran to Luca’s room. I opened the door hoping to hear screams like “Surprise! It was a prank.” But instead, I saw Luca and Selene kissing passionately.

Selene immediately noticed my presence and maintained her composure before exiting the room.

“I thought I asked you to leave?” he asked in a calm, yet cold tone but I remained silent.

“Since when has this been going on?” I asked in tears, and my nose was crammed with mucus.

“A few days ago,” he said with a sly grin playing on his face.

“I am sorry for the way I talked to you on stage; I did not mean any of those. Please don’t do this to me,” I pleaded in tears.

“Guard!” he called out, pulling the door open and one of the guards came towards me with his blade drawn.

“Take her away.” He ordered.

“Please_”

Without listening to what I had to say, the guard grabbed me by the hand and while I was pushed out of the pack’s premises, I didn’t forget to throw threats at whoever cared to listen.

“I will make sure you suffer for this. It won’t end here!”

Even though they were empty threats.
