Chapter 3

Lyra’s POV

I was thrown out of the gate, they didn’t even allow me to pack some of my clothes, I was still in a heavy dress.

I braced myself as I made it past the main entrance with shame as the other wolves gazed at me. I have nowhere else to go. I didn’t even have any money with me.

I’m doomed.

I picked up myself and headed to a white house. What was I going to tell my mom when asked what I had come for? I questioned myself as I knocked at the door.

“Good afternoon miss,” the guard greeted me immediately he recognized me. “I will announce your presence to M’lady,”

What could I have done? Or said? I just nodded.

“I shall wait,” I mumbled and he locked back the gate while I stayed outside looking homeless and hopeless.

“Who do we have here?” my mom laughed.

The tone of her voice was mocking and I didn’t expect less. All I wished for was to be accepted back. I don’t mind if she mocks me.

“Mom…Mother_” I called, stuttering. “Good day, Mother,”

“Shh_ Who is your mother? In fact, what is good about the day? What are you doing here?” she said, ignoring my greetings, as she threw another question at me.

“Where is your Alpha husband?”

I fixed my gaze on the floor. “He isn’t here with me,” I shamefully murmured with the last ounce of vocal in my throat.

“I can’t hear you. Speak up,” she ordered.

“I need a room to stay in for a few days Mother,”

“Do you expect me to give you a room in my house? After all you have done?” she scoffed and shot me a laser with her eyes.

“I am sorry_”

“Oh, you thought I hadn’t heard about your rejection,” she said with a burst of mocking laughter.

The door behind her was pushed open and my cousin, Gemini emerged.

“Lyra!” she screamed in excitement and was about to hug me but was held back by my mother.

“Leave her, she is no longer welcome here,” her facial expression saying everything I needed to know. “Besides, she chose a man over her own mother.”

“She can still be forgiven, Mum.”

“MUM?” I had just been away for three years and she already replaced me with my cousin.

On second thought, I deserve it.

“She needs shelter, and there are plenty of empty rooms in the house,”

“I do not want her inside my house,” my mom said with a straight face.

“She can stay in the empty barn,” Gemini suggested.

“That settles it,” mother nodded. “Take her to the empty barn, she will pass the night there,” she said to the maid nearby and turned back her gaze at me.

“I am only letting you stay because you need shelter, and nothing more. Stay away from this house and do not come close to it,”

Without saying a word, I followed the maid to the empty barn.

My thoughts went back to the last time I was in the house with my mom, and the argument I had with her before walking out of the house, headed to the pack I had just been thrown away from.

A drop of tear threatened to fall off my eyes and I withheld, trailing behind the maid as she led the way to the empty barn.

“I will send in some maids to clean it up for you,” she said with a smile trailing on her face.

“Thank you,” I said with a nod and walked into the space.

I don’t deserve this, I know.

But I didn’t mind, not one bit.

I mean, I could have been thrown away immediately after I came knocking but I wasn’t.

Why should I care about the barn that was given for shelter? There were no windows or doors in the barn, and I was hurt one moment.

“It’s nothing,” I said to myself and heaved a sigh.

I tossed myself at the hay on the floor.

It felt good to be under a roof.

I finally let out the tears that have been threatening to fall off all this while. I was hurt by what happened between Luca and I.

What can Luca say I have done to him to deserve this treatment? I have been by his side through rough and thin.

Just then, I heard a knock from outside and it was my cousin, Gemini.

“I brought food and water,” she said with a smile on her face.

“Thank you.”

“I will help you talk to her,” she reassured before exiting.

There was the need for me to bathe and also change but I can’t. I heaved a sigh and cried myself to sleep.

The next day, I woke up with a sharp pain all over my body and was very tired. I couldn’t sleep. The mosquitoes keep swaying in my ears to remind me of how miserable my life has become.

I got up from the hay and thought for a little while before my legs led me to the house, to iron things out with my mother.

After the guard at the door passed on the information of my presence to her, I was let into the house.

“What do you want? and for moon goddess sake you stink,” she said, pinning her nose with two fingers.

“I_”

My words failed me again, and I summoned more courage.

“I know you are disappointed in me and I am sorry for how things went on between us in the past,”

She remained silent as she glared at me from head to toe.

“Mother, it was a mistake and will never happen again,”

“Shut up your mouth,” she hushed me up. “It will never happen again because he dumped you! What if he didn’t? Will you come here saying that it was a mistake? Will you even care to come and know how I have been? Tell me, will you?”

“No mother,” I shook my head and bowed my head in shame. “But I’m sorry and willing to make things right.”

“Listen to me, the only thing I can do for you is to give you a room inside this house but do not touch any of my things including my food,” she let out. “Go get yourself a job to feed yourself. Leave my presence,”

With tears in the corner of my eyes, I turned around and walked to the door.

My legs led me to the barn and while I walked, a maid approached me.“Miss, M'lady asked that I show you to your room,”

A little smile tossed on my face as I followed the maid while she led the way to the smallest room in the house. She pushed the door open and I caught sight of the room. It was not well polished but at least it was better than the barn.

“Thank you,” I said with a nod as she handed over the key to me and I walked into the space.

Immediately, I locked the door and scanned the room. There was a towel and also some clothes provided. I immediately pulled off the heavy dress to arrange my new space.

The moment I was done with the sweeping, cleaning, and arrangement, I grabbed a towel and walked into the bathroom for a cool bath. I stood under the shower and let my tears flow with the water cascading down my body.

After my bath, I grabbed some outfits.

I needed to be at a bar and cool off the many thoughts in my head. Getting high and drunk is something I should try out especially now.
