Chapter 96 - The Pack

“What does that mean?” I ask confused with what Carter is saying. Perhaps it is the grogginess around my sleep deprived brain that is causing me to be dense. I sit back in my chair and wait for him to explain.

He puts the papers down beside him and pulls his chair closer to mine. Our knees are touching, and I feel a sense of comfort at his closeness. I have a strong feeling I am not going to like what he is about to tell me. He takes my hand and holds it gently in his.

“Oddly it would seem that when you arrived at the Red Woods Pack is when this money started arriving,” he says to me. “Okay,” I reply feeling the aches in my body from having been sitting over the documents all night. “What does that mean?” I ask naively. Carter looks at me sadly, “It means there is a good chance that someone else knew your aunt and uncle took you. It means that there is a good chance someone was paying the Alpha and the Red Woods Pack to keep yo
