Lilith's POV
While Simon drove to the little town at the end of the mountain’s road, we talked about our parents, which led to more. Just like mine, his parents loved him dearly. Their parents treated Opal and he as equals and considered them both to be Golden Children. He told me how they watched Opal be mentally tougher, whereas him being physically tougher. It made them the perfect unit.
It turns out the reason Opal was so shy was because of girls at school choosing to be friends with her just to get close to her brother. She couldn’t find genuine friends and kept getting used. With guys wanting to date her, they were afraid of the aftermath of Simon and refused to act on their feelings. Opal had never had a boyfriend, thanks to Simon, and Simon had never had a girlfriend who hadn’t tried to take advantage of his sister.
