Chapter 20 - Guilt.

I wake up immediately as I sense some moments around me. I am anyway a light sleeper. My eyes instantly searched Zara. “What happened?” I look at her with slight anxiousness. “Is there anything wrong with you?”

Zara shakes her head, “No, I just pulled on my wound slightly.”

I stand up quickly hearing this and lift the blanket to check her wound. It is still tightly bandaged and probably would not lead to complications.

I let out a sigh of relief and frown at her. “Be more careful. Don’t move too much.”

Last night, she mumbled time and again, and her groaning made me feel uneasy because I couldn’t do anything to take her pain away. She’s lying here because of me.

I could only hold her hand and stay beside her. Around dawn, I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Henry saw this and wanted me to sleep in the adjacent room but each time I moved, Zara would groan in pain.

Thus, I dismissed Henry with a gesture of my hand and stay there looking after her the entire time.
