(Sammy)
That moment when nothing made sense, sitting in the conference room full of strangers talking nonstop. Your mind wanders around to random things, including counting the number of bald old men sitting.
Of course, that only happened when your boss was a female with heavy makeup and red lipstick which made her appear like she was running for a clown show, two shifts a day.
I sat in my chair lazily as I sighed inwardly, I was wearing tinted spectacles that gave me the advantage to close my eyes. Drift to sleep imagining my soft comfortable bed with nice smelling linens with fluffy soft pillows that I loved more than anything.
I was in an important meeting, a shareholder's meeting with a lot of board of directors commenting their views. In such a case I always came prepared, my specs shielded me from the unnecessary trouble and having to look at all the weird men and women, especially our boss who thought she was the diva of the corporation.
“Our company is the best, our clients depend on us to give them nothing but the best… gentlemen we need a strategic to grasp more and be on top,” I sat there not knowing I what was being said. I could hear an angry voice shouting my name, but I felt like shifting, and hence I threw my left leg to the sides and I heard murmurs rising,
I muttered something about all the old fools to get a life and felt as my head was lowering down until I hit something solid,
Ouch'
I said mentally and grabbed something close to me and leaned on it, it was the vice president's hand, it was meaty and somehow boney. I didn't care as I muttered again in my head. I thought I had it all under control until I heard a hand slam hard on the table just near my head, making me jump up. I rose to my feet abruptly, nearly falling, but quickly I grabbed the chair which the vice president was sitting in. I balanced up as I looked around the place, hoping it was a dream.
“Oh no,” Being in a meeting was a dream, and I was back home sleeping in my soft, comfortable bed. However, when my blurry eyes opened, I felt my knees weaken as I shifted my gaze around, and I was in a meeting.
All our shareholders were staring at me as if I were an alien from Mars. I quickly adjusted my floral red dress and cleared my throat as my mind worked hard to come up with an excuse
“I…well…wow…you look so pretty madam CEO,” I said with fake laughter, stammering to think of an excuse to save me from trouble. The CEO lady was looking at me like a mean witch and just her eyes which were glowing a crimson red had me backing away unconsciously.
“What is this Miss Morgan…sleeping at work…in an important meeting” my boss yelled through gritted teeth, she looked angry and judging by the way she said the words through clenched teeth, I knew I was already fired.
“Miss… I mean Mrs.… Amelia… I wasn't sleeping I was…napping” oh gosh, of all things my stupid brain could come up with was napping, sleeping and napping were the same things, and now I slowly swallowed hard as I fiddled with my hands which has turned cold. Everyone knew the CEO lady was a mean woman. She never smiled which everyone feared and had tried to make her happy, unfortunately she was like a rock fated to be still and smiling was far from her vocabulary. And when I looked back to Amelia Hawkins, the woman of substance, and she was glaring at me in disdain.
“I will not have you insult my company… I forgave you once for being late for your presentation…you kidnapped our most important business partner causing our company loses, and now you were sleeping in my meeting…with our important shareholders!” my boss yelled, this time she didn't hold back, she let all loose as she counted, listed my felonies which I have committed since the day I started working and yes…it had only been two months and my boss hated me because I was better than her.
’T…that's not it…”
“You are fired! Now out of my company!” she didn't wait for me to finish my sentence when she cut me off, 'how rude' I mentally thought rolling my eyes in irritation.
“You can't do this…you need me… I'm your best worker” I said to her reminding her that other than being a worthless person she saw me as, I was capable of making work happen, I did more than she, the boss had ever done for the company and everyone loved me for it
“Best worker? Haa!” Amelia mocked looking at me in disdain, she was hell-bent on humiliating me in front of others because her voice was now high, she already had an annoying high-pitched voice, and now she was shouting on top of it
“You are nothing but a pain in the neck…you are worthless!” she shouted at me and I saw as the men in the room looked at me with disdain in their eyes. Some were nodding and agreeing with her statement, and seeing that my blood boiled. She had no right to talk to me in such a manner as if I were her slave, Samantha Morgan was no one's puppet, for a 24 years old woman, I was much more…beautiful and intelligent while she was just a divorcee left by her husband
“If I'm worthless so are you Amelia…just look at you…your dressing is ugly” I started as I looked at her from head to toe, I could see the change in her facial expression and I knew I hit the nail on the head, and I wasn't done yet “looking at you… I feel pity… I mean no wonder your husband left you because of how you look…for a CEO…you're dressing is horrible and this heavy makeup you wear doesn't look nice on you…your hairstyle is like that of the eighties” I added counting all her flaws, she got on my nerves and I went on embarrassing her in front of her employees such that I could see how the people in the room were muffling in laughter.
Amelia was sweating from embarrassment, and I was smirking as I slammed my laptop shut and picked it up
“How dare you insult me you pathetic low-class girl who doesn't even deserve to lick my shoes…”?
“I quit…you funny clown!” I shouted before she could go on and insult me more…yes I was not rich like her. I didn't have a mansion for a house, but I had self-respect. And I was going to walk out of her company with dignity.
“Out! You are fired!” she yelled after me as I elegantly walked to the door. I wasn't concerned with working for her as I went straight to my office to pack my stuff, it was rather hot, and I could settle for a cold drink, but I needed a ride. I quickly took out my phone to call the person who found the darn job for me.
“Hey Charlie …yeah your sister got fired for…the fifth time…pick me up ASAP ''I sent a voicemail knowing my brother was busy working. My twin was successful unlike me, he loved me a lot and would pick me up, although he was likely to scold me for ruining his hard work. In fact, I typed a large paragraph, explaining why I was fired and why it wasn't my fault
“Just great” I muttered as I packed everything I owned in the boxes. I would rather not stay for long, knowing the clown might send her security guards to throw me out.
(Sammy)It was a hot day, the sun was so hot that I felt as if I was already in hell burning for being such a jerk. I lost my job for the fifth time and knew my twin brother was going to be so furious. He was the one who found this job for me, I just worked for two months, and I was promoted to managing director. A good position for me, as my mom said, and my twin said I didn't even deserve to be anyone's secretary. Of course, all of them were just intimidated by my intelligence as well as beauty. But now I didn't even feel beautiful as I stood by the roadside with my luggage burning under the sun like a sausage left on the stove to burn out“Damn…where is that jerk?” I muttered in frustration as I glanced at my Rolex gold watch around my wrist, and it was an hour passed. My twin was nowhere to be seen. I was standing there like an orphan abandoned by her parents. And the cars driving by had noisy people who kept staring at me as if I had a sign on my forehead that said for sale.
When everything was alright a few hours ago, there was a massive party at the farmhouse in Miami, only to receive a call that he was needed urgently. David didn't even know why he was called to fly down from Miami to London, but he did. He left the party and took the private jet back, only to get the shocking news of a lifetime: the death of his older brother. Nothing felt right, he was so disturbed that he rushed to the hospital to confirm if it was a prank. A prank by his brother to make him come back home, however, when he entered the room he was shown. David nearly collapsed. He didn't want it to be the truth, but his innocent brother was lying on a hospital bed covered from head to toe, and the sight of him not breathing hurt him. Furthermore, he always asked him not to work so much, but he never listened, he was sick but still worked as if life depended on it. And it was his ex-wife's fault. After she ran away with another man, she immediately gave birth to his brother's boys
(Sammy)I blinked a few times as if trying to process what had just happened to me. After getting scolded by Trisha, who couldn't stop pointing out my flaws of not knowing how to keep my job despite being beautiful and intelligent, I decided to go out and loosen up a little. I was too exhausted to stay in bed and stare at the ceiling, wondering where it went wrong. Like always I was never alone, I invited my best friend, my partner in crime and the only woman who understood me for me,she never judged me and always supported me even when I was wrong. That was Christina for you. I called her Chris for short, and she was one hell of a friend, although she was a two-timer.“So let's get this straight…some bitchy hussy, called my friend names…in front of old men and threw you out?” Chris said as if she didn't get what I just told her, after we got to our favorite bar, kill 'em drinks, a funny name for a bar, but the name complimented the person who owned it. A sluggish nearly old man wi
(David's POV)I thought my day was over, at least I would have appreciated it if I didn't have to do so many things. A second ago, my life was fine, it was perfect, and I didn't have to bother about responsibilities, but I was sitting in the study room which I didn't know existed in the mansion. To be honest, I never stayed in my house for even an hour talking of seconds. I was always on the move, that was why I had bought many penthouses in every corner of London. My brother lived in a nice mansion, with his two boys I only came to visit when I needed something, but now here I was, going through some files which I didn't even want to look at. It had only been three days since my brother died, we buried him and now everything was on her head. I was beginning to get irritated“What is this…is there a way you can choose another CEO or whatever… I have no time for this!” I yelled in anger, tossing the two files I had in my hands aside as a low groan escaped my lips, my head was alread
(Sammy's POV)Three days passed, and I was still irritated. Staying at home all day was a pain in the neck, especially when I had a mother like Trisha, she was a greedy woman who loved nice things. Occasionally I wondered how dad tolerated her all for so long. My parents were like my role model, never a dull moment, and they were married for so long and even still I never heard them talk about separation, even when they had misunderstandings, They never let their children know about it which gave me and my twin brother a sense of having a perfect family. I was aware that a perfect family was not possible but with my parents, it was proof enough, that was why my twin brother worked hard to be a good man in life just like our father. He worked hard day and night to make sure we were well-educated, he took her to the best schools and gave us whatever we wanted. This was my problem and the problem everyone said I had. I was too spoiled from birth hence working seemed like an issue. Bu
(Sammy's POV)I thought my brother cared about me or even loved me, but that was a lie, it was clear he wanted to humiliate me. I arrived at the damned building, which was obviously glorious, and they kept me waiting. As much as I felt ashamed stepping on its grounds as soon as I got out of the shabby almost broken taxi I booked, I was stunned to find the interior was spectacular with standard. Nothing less expensive. She was now guessing why her brother was so classy and well off. He was successful and had a satisfying life with everything he needed. In the past, I never bothered to actually look into Williams corporation, which was a well-known company. Most of my friends I graduated with dreamed of being accepted at such a successful company. Unfortunately, I didn't even bother. My only concern was finishing my studies and getting free from all the noisy lecturers and their nagging, but now my eyes were seeing heaven. The atmosphere was pleasant such that I was feeling dizzy, s
I scanned the furniture arranged to the left side of the room which was black couches with a coffee table in the middle and a vase of artificial flowers which got my attention then shifted my eyes to the glass table with a leather chair which, I assumed, was the boss's chair“Please have a seat… Ms Morgan”the man said as he guided me towards the desk and pulled out a chair and I gracefully sat down and set my purse on the table as I adjusted my white jacket I decided to wear over the tuck in white shirt together with black trousers with black heels. I would rather not look unprofessional; hence I did my best and my best screamed beautiful.“So welcome… I'm sure you were told that this interview won't take long, but I'll only ask you a few questions”the man spoke as he rummaged through a few files on the table and took out a blue file which he shoved on the desk near me. I nodded and fixed my eyes on the file and the man nodded as well “good… I'm Chase Miller…the company's lawyer as
(David's POV)I paced around my so-called office like a wounded animal. My mind was a mess as I thought about the possibility of the court giving my brother's hard-earned wealth to strangers just because I was found not eligible to take care of two boys who were only four years old. I mean, the twins in question were my nephews who I loved, and they loved me a lot. I didn't see why I had to have a permanent woman living in my house all for having a stable home and a good environment for two kids who still needed the love of parents“Calm down already… I told you… I have this under control”I heard Charlie say with a chuckle and I stopped packing and turned to look at him, and he was busy scrolling on his phone. It was easy for him to say that everything was okay, but I was the one suffering, I was the one feeling the pain of having the weight of the world on my head, and now I was waiting for Chase to come back with the results I needed to get out of the situation even if I had to sa
