CHAPTER 9

Katarina's Pov

My eyes gradually opened to the sound of my phone ringing. Although I don't recall bringing my phone with me, I sensed its presence near me and attempted to locate its source. Nathan was holding my phone, which was ringing, and had a pensive expression while crossing his arms over his chest.

"Ahem," I coughed discretely to get his attention. For a fleeting moment, our gazes met and he seemed disoriented. He promptly rose to his feet and handed me my phone. Maddie was on the line, so I promptly answered her call.

"Kat, Kat is that you?" She asked, sounding frantic. She must have panicked when she heard I ran away.

"Yes, Maddie. I'm so sorry for not calling you earlier." The day before dragged on endlessly.

"Where are you? We're all worried about you. Your mum has been crying her eyes out throughout the night," she informs me. I could hear some noise in the background.

"Are you at my house right now?" I asked her.

"I had no choice but to come, my phone had been incessant
