SIXTY NINE

“Are you alright ma’am?”. Ralph had asked me as he opened the door for me to go in.

I guess it was that obvious that I had been crying, or at least that I had been having a rather shitty day. I pulled on the best smile I could muster and nodded.

“I’m fine, thank you”. I replied quietly.

I got into the car and sat quietly as he closed the door and hurried back to the driver’s seat. The drive was rather quick since I had shut my eyes and leaned my head against the headrest throughout the drive, it seems I had been almost falling asleep cause I had no idea when the car had stopped or when Ralph had gotten out and opened the door for me.

“We’re her, Ma’am”. He said to get my attention.

And my eyes fluttered open quickly. I nodded.

“Thank you, I must have fallen asleep”. I said quietly.

He shook his head and offered me a kind smile, one which I could tell was genuine from the way his eyes warmed up. I tried to return his smile but probably ended up looking as miserable as I felt. I s
