Chapter One

Sophia's pov:

I was walking through the dark when I felt someone's presence behind my back, I slowly turned but didn't see anyone around.

I continued to walk home telling myself that possibly my mind is being the one playing tricks on me. On reaching my cabin, I felt that feeling again. I quickly turned my back, and then I saw two people following me. I began to run towards my house when I heard a gunshot. I stopped running then.

Slowly veering around, I felt my bones cringe in terror as I noticed the two guys that were following me are now dead and beside them is another person lying on the floor with blood covering his whole body.

Their whole bodies were slashed with their blood shattering on the ground but something was off about the third guy.

I didn't see him with the other two guys, so tell me where exactly he came from.

I gulped nervously as my eyes darted around the whole place searching for the person that could be behind their sudden death.

My hands were vibrating, I could feel the erratic beating of my heart. My subconscious was yelling for me to run away, to back away but I found myself ambling toward them.

It was as if my legs had a mind of their own, I could feel an odd pull toward them. Something within me is pushing me to the scene.

Shouldn't I suppose to run away?

Still,  I went closer to the place he was lying to help him, but he immediately held my hand. I felt sparks from him touching my hands.

I couldn't see his face as he had a hoodie covering half of his face, I leaned beside his face so that I can be able to look at him.

As our eyes locked, a lighter silver eye held me on the spot.

I could feel electric sparks rushing through me,  cringing my bones. My heartbeat quickens as I stare back at those silver eyes that took my breath away.

I could feel a strange pull toward him like my heart yearns for him. Something within me wails for his hold, strange because I have never felt like this before, not even to the opposite sex.

Everything was happening damn fast that for some minutes I found myself staring deeply at him.

Matching his gaze, I could feel his eyes sucking me in.

"Ah!" his groan snapped me back to reality.

"Wow!" I gaped. I was stunned because I have not seen anyone with that kind of eye. His gaze is so captivating I was lost in them when I heard him telling me to run as fast as I could and that he will come for me later. I stood up to my speed and ran back home…

My name is Sophia Anthony, the first daughter of my parents, and I have a younger sister Stella who happens to be my parent's favourite daughter.

She is beautiful, has a supermodel body and brown eyes and dirty brown hair just like my father. She always likes to go after all these flashy and rich guys, she has a boyfriend, Sam.

While I on the other side had brown eyes like my father, am not too tall and had black hair like my mom, I am just a plain normal girl with nothing much to show off.

Mr Anthony, of course, my father, a gambler who doesn't know about him. While my mother is a typical housewife.

At 22 I have already started providing for the family. I work in a coffee shop downtown. I will leave home early in the morning and come back late every day.

At home, nobody cared about me. All the love and attention were showered on my younger sister. My parents will always remind me that I am a disappointment to them.

The pain of always sitting down and watching them spit horrible words at me bleeds my heart.

It hurts to watch them treat me like a nobody like my life doesn't matter!

They only care about the money I bring home. My way about got nothing to do with them, I was leaving with them but at the same time, I feel like I am all alone.

I have lived my childhood age till now trying to fit in with the kind of girl and daughter that they want.

Mimicking Stella just be the girl that they ever wanted but still, everything was the same, nothing changed.

As each day draws closer, their behaviour toward me becomes worse. Going to the streets to make ends meet just to please them fetch nothing to me rather they slurred and termed me a misfortune. The very reason behind their predicament!

It hurts but I couldn't do much, I was supposed to have gotten used to their behaviour but who gets used to pain?

I sighed and blinked back the tears threatening to trickle down my face,  sighing I rambled back that night, looking very exhausted from the incident earlier and was about to enter my room when my mother called me back.

I followed her to the sitting room, and she immediately started yelling and asking why I didn't leave any money for them before going to work in the morning, I was trying to explain to her that our manager at work didn't pay us and that's why I didn't drop any money in the morning before leaving. She was enraged and said that because I didn't leave any money for them, I won't be getting any food for the night.

I opened my mouth to talk but no words were able to form on my lips. All I could do was stare and allow tears to flow down.

The tears that I was holding back rolled down my face, wetting my cheeks. My heart tightened as I seemed to hurt. I watch as my father and sister munch on the food on the dining table.

This is the food that I bought with my hard-earned money, with my sweat!

My jaw clenched in anger but at the end of the day I couldn't do anything,  so I sighed and strode to my room.

On opening the door, I went straight to bed hungry and cried my eyes out, crying myself to sleep as usual.

I Hope it gets better someday.
