Thirty One

Desmond carried Faith and helped her settle in the back seat of his car while her mother and Amirah stood some centimeters away. 

"My dear, are you sure you don't want to follow me home?" her mother asked, trying to convince her unyielding daughter who only shook her head and forced a smile on her pale face. 

"I'm fine, mum. It's just some sprained ankle, not cancer," Faith joked and earned a laugh from them all. 

Desmond walked up to Amirah and smiled. "Hop in, I'm taking you home."

The little girl folded her hands around her chest and tilted her head totally to the back to look at him and it was almost touching her back. "So, how did it go?"
