Chapter Thirty Seven

Sarita held out hope that Vikrant would show up for the play but as the auditorium filled up with parents and students and teachers... She saw no sign of him. She found Kaly and Michael sitting together in the Fourth row, talking and laughing and she wondered what they were talking about.

"Sarita." Raj called.

Sarita jumped and whirled to face Raj. "Yes?"

"Are you okay? You look nervous." He said.

"Well, I've never done this before in front of a large crowd."

"You'll be fine. You're a natural." He smiled, placed his hand on her shoulder and squeezed. He peered behind her through the curtains at the crowd and sighed. "He's really not coming, huh?" He muttered.

"Who?" She hoped he was talking about the same person she was thinking of.

"Vikrant. I asked him if he'd be here but he said no." Raj replied. "I called his bluff because he's the type of person who says something and does quite the opposite." He sighed. "I guess... he's really not coming."

"I see." She looked down at her feet.
