Chapter 6: The Bedroom

Kairo

I heard the bustling crowd, the clinking of glasses, and the classical music from my bedroom. My headache became even worse. I did not want to interact with people who don’t give two shits about the pack.

“There’s the man of the night!” I heard my door open. I glared at the culprit. “Come on man. This is your party. Come and show those people who owns this night.” Dalton said, shaking his shoulders while entering from my door.

I sighed. “Why are you here, Dalton?”

“Your mom’s been pestering me all night, man. I couldn't even enjoy the snack bar! Dalton, where's Kairo? Dalton find Kairo! Dalton it’s getting late, fetch Kairo.” He suddenly changed his pitch to a high-tone and mimicked my mom.

I remained serious. “I’ll go down there tomorrow during my coronation. I don’t see the point of celebrating my birthday with people that I don’t even know.”

“But the purpose of this birthday party is for you to find your mate! You’re already 18, dude. Aren’t you a little bit excited about the thought of finding the one you’ll spend the rest of your life with?”

“I told you already. I don’t plan on finding my mate. Amelia’s already been training for the Luna position.” I said while massaging my head and sitting on the corner of my bed. Dalton sat right beside me.

“But what if Amelia’s not your mate? What will you do then?”

“That doesn’t matter. It’s highly unlikely that I’ll be meeting my mate in such a short period of time. And besides, I’ve already set my mind on making Amelia as Luna. She has the most lethal knife skills in the pack. That would be a good advantage in protecting the people.” I said, moving away from Dalton.

“Damn, you’re really such a cold man. Is everything just a pack matter? That you even have to sacrifice your mate?” Dalton uttered, holding onto my shoulder.

“I don’t see it as a sacrifice.” I shook his hand away.

He groaned. “Nothing really gets past you, huh? Then, let’s have a change of topic. There’s this very beautiful girl in the party right now, and everybody’s raving about her looks. Why don’t you go down with me and catch a glimpse of her, okay?” He said, pulling me to stand up and walk out of the door.

I removed his grip on my wrist. “I’ve seen quite a lot of beautiful ladies in my time, Dalton. And seeing my face in the mirror everyday is enough beauty in this world, I believe.” I smirked.

He made a sour face. “I can’t stand your attitude, geez. I’ve also seen many beautiful ladies, Kai. But.. This one’s quite different. She also has a strong presence along with her beautiful looks. However, no one can’t compare with Desiree's beauty.” He rambled on and on. “Fuck, speaking of. I left Desiree at our table and I told her that I’ll be back quickly.” He said, preparing to move out of the room.

“Are you really sure that you’re not going to go down? I’m gonna hear an earful from your mother.”

“Just go.” I said, shutting the door on his face. My headache was worse than it was before. I brought out the wine from the mini refrigerator and poured the red and fragrant liquid on the wine glass. I drank the wine and felt the heat flowing down my body. I groaned in satisfaction. That hits the spot. I laid on my bed and turned on some quiet music, basking in the heat and calmness that the wine brings.

I didn’t notice how many glasses of wine I had drank but it was enough to make me dizzy when I stood up and observed the night sky from my window. I enjoyed the calm night and let out a deep breath. I was getting ready to go to bed when I heard someone slamming my door close and the scent of strawberries and cream invaded my senses.

Heck yeah. It wasn’t locked. I pushed the door open and swiftly slammed it close, fumbling with the lock while taking a deep breath. I sure hope Caitlyn and Damien do not find me here. I was so distracted with my fear that I failed to realize the wonderful scent surrounding the room. It was only when I caught my breath and leaned on the door frame that I smelled the intoxicating scent of red wine and musk. I closed my eyes and indulged in the rich scent. Where is this coming from?

I heard a low cough coming from the back of the room and was startled awake. I looked around the room but it was so dark that I could only make out a faint outline of a young man standing near the window. “Hello… who are you?” I cautiously whispered.

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that? What are you doing in my room? Who sent you?” I was shocked by his deep voice. My knees went weak so I had to hold onto the door handle while listening to him speak.

I saw in his outline that he was getting closer to me. I moved further away from the door until I hit the corner of the bed. He was only about a foot away from me and the intoxicating scent bombarded my senses making my knees give up, resulting in me sitting down on the bed. I heard his footsteps halt and a quiet sniff came from the mysterious man. He walked slowly over to me, I still couldn’t make out his appearance. I suddenly became dizzy as he came even closer to me. The vodka in my system and the scent of the red wine is too much for me to handle. I leaned on the bed using my elbows and gasped as I saw the man’s face being illuminated by the moonlight.

His eyes also widened as he explored my features. I bent closer to him and touched the bridge of his nose. It was like electricity flowed through my veins so I quickly retracted my hands and just stared at the handsome man in front of me. “Alpha… Alpha Kairo?” I asked, my voice sounding needy.

He growled and reached out for my hand again. I gasped as I felt those electric tingles traveling up my body. My heart was beating like a hundred miles per hour, our breaths labored, and our eyes clouded with lust. I moaned as he suddenly placed his head on the back of my neck, smelling it deeply. I felt his hot breath and couldn’t resist holding onto his back.

“Why.. Why am I feeling like this?” I quietly moaned as I rested my head on his shoulder. He withdrew his head away from me and I reached up to him as we lost contact. He breathed in deeply and laid me gently on the bed, our gazes never leaving each other’s faces. The scent of the red wine was even more potent than it was before, and I can also smell it on his breath. I drew myself closer to him and observed the way his eyes darkened while observing me.

It’s as if the world has stopped and we were the only living creatures left on earth. I traced his face, starting from his dark blue eyes all the way to his plump and red lips. I licked my lips as I saw him biting his. This was a familiar feeling. This is the feeling that I’ve heard in one of my mother's stories— about how your world stops and how his smell was the only scent you can distinguish. When your heart beats fast enough to win a race and when you think of all the ways to make that certain someone yours.

“Mate.”
