Chapter 74

I stood still, staring at the darkness in front of me. I needed time and space to think, which was why I was here alone in the forest, not far from the camp.

After that guy's outburst earlier, it got me thinking. What if Alec really wouldn't make it, no... to be more precise, what if we couldn't make it out of this war alive? What if we lose each other forever?

"Hey, what are you doing here alone?" A deep voice suddenly interrupted my train of thoughts.

I spun around and saw that it was Alec. He had on a worried face and I could sense that he felt down as well after what happened earlier.

"I just needed to think, and what better place than here?" I replied, smiling at him as he approached me.

"You know it's dangerous out here in the dark," He said with a firm voice, but the gentleness behind them are still evident.

He slowly wrapped his arms around me as he engulfed me in a tight hug. His earthy wooden scent was all it took to calm my chaotic thoughts. I was afraid, I admit, but
