Chapter 36 – Butterflies In My Stomach

Lisa's POV

So Jonas left that afternoon to have lunch with his parents, so I was left alone to wander the estate grounds, which I was afraid of doing. I had experienced enough surprises to last me a while, and after last night, I wanted no more. Despite the allure of the garden, I stay on the patio at a table next to one of the estate's pools. The umbrella attached to the table shields me from the scorching sun. I sipped my iced tea, frustrated that I still didn't know what had happened to Abraham and the other rebels. They would be treated the same way I had been treated when I was captured some decades ago. I closed my eyes to hold back the tears threatening to break free. Abraham didn't deserve whatever fate he would meet at the hands of the Council, but then again, I didn't deserve to die at the mercy of the rebels either.

Lisa, please. I hear Kayden's voice.

I wipe my eyes before opening them to see Kayden walking towards me.
