Chapter 2

His lips were inches away from mine. I froze, the sensation I felt going through my body was something I never felt before. The moment was broken when his Beta knocked on the door and walked in. The Alpha pulled himself off of me. The Beta looked at me with the same devious smile as before. I gave him an annoyed stare in return.

He looked shocked and amused at the same time “she has some balls doesn’t she” he said.

I saw them talking through the mind link. I remained seated on his bed. Waiting, again.

“Stay here,” the Alpha said, commanding. I sighed and nodded in reply. His beta stayed with me.

“What’s your name?” I asked him. Only he gave me a weird look in response.  “Sorry, what’s your name, Beta.”

He chuckled briefly. “Carson, I hope you don’t have that tone when you’re with the Alpha.”

“Maybe, I try not to,” I said with a laugh. “When is he coming back?”

“You miss him already?” He asked with a smirk.

“No, not really, I don’t know.” I looked confused, I was confused. Do I miss him? No, or do I? “I just don’t know what he wants from me.”

Carson wanted to say something but stopped himself. I saw his eyes flicker while he sniffed the air.

“What is it with all that sniffing the air constantly? Do I smell or something?”

“Again, with the attitude,” he said with his same smile.

“Again, with that weird smile.” I crossed my arms and sighed.

Normally, I’m not this bitchy, I didn't know what was happening to me.

For the next hour, Carson and I remained quiet. I saw him talking through the mind link a couple of times, but he didn’t say another word to me. It was almost dinner time and I was getting hungry. And we all know what happens when a she-wolf gets hungry. I was getting more annoyed by the second. Carson noticed I was getting restless. He stood up and took my hand, lifting me from the bed

“Come on let’s get something to eat,” he said.

All the tables were set, and a large buffet table was filled with food. My stomach started rummaging. Carson noticed and picked up a plate and filled it with some food. I did the same and followed him. We went out the back and sat down on the grass.

“I don’t think we're allowed to eat inside,” he said.

“You mean I’m not allowed,” I said with a small laugh.

I quickly finished my plate, still feeling hungry. I looked over to the dining hall through the window. I sighed, there were already people inside. I knew I couldn’t get any more food. Carson got up and took my plate.

“Wait here,” he said with a wink before he walked back inside.

When he came back outside, with two filled plates of food. I smiled and grabbed one of the plates he was offering

“Thank you, Carson.”

His smile was kind this time. No more devious grin. Nobody ever took care of me.

“When do you turn eighteen?” He asked.

“Two days,” I said with my mouth filled with food.

“Are you nervous?”

“For what?” I asked.

“For finding your mate.”

I thought about what he said, I never thought about finding my mate, only about leaving this place. “No actually.”

He let out a laugh.

“Why?” I asked him, keeping my eyes on him.

“Some do everything to find their mate. Especially she-wolfs.”

“I don’t need a mate to feel complete. Did you find your mate?” I asked him.

“No, I haven’t. Neither has Ares,” he said with a sigh.

“Who is Ares?”

He let out a laugh. “Of course, he hadn’t introduced himself. The King Alpha, Alpha of all Alpha’s, his name is Ares,” he said with an attitude.

The name sounded familiar, “God of war,” I mumbled.

“You know your Greek mythology I see,” he said.

“I don’t know much about my birth parents. But I do remember the bedtime stories they told me. About the gods. I don’t know why. One of them was the story of the god of war, Ares, and his redemption. That he was cursed to walk this earth alone. His love, Aphrodite, would be lost and kept from him. He wouldn’t even recognize her, even if she stood before him. Kind of a sad story. Not really a bedtime story as I think of it,” I said with a chuckle.

I saw Carson thinking it over, “maybe, he will find her. Someday.”

He got up and reached his hand out to mine, “Come on, we have to go back.”

I took his hand and pulled myself up. We walked back inside and he pointed to the stairs. He went back into the dining room to take the plates back. I was just about to walk up the stairs when I heard the same heavy footsteps as before.

“Why aren’t you upstairs?”

His voice made a shiver run down my spine. I turned around. Meeting Ares's eyes, his eyes were a dark brown color with hints of gold. The gold flecks were swirling. I noticed I was staring and that I didn’t answer his question. He moved closer, lifting me up over his shoulder, and walked up the stairs.

“I’m perfectly capable of walking up the stairs myself,” I said, annoyed.

“Look who found her voice back,” he responded.

I chuckled at what he said. He walked toward his room, placing me back on my feet before the door. He didn’t let go of my waist, keeping me close to him. I carefully placed my hands on his chest.

“So, you’re a god I hear,” I said with a playful smile.

He pushed me against the door with his body against mine. He opened the door, making me fall backward. He grabbed me by my waist while walking through the door opening. He closed the door behind him, locking it.

I felt myself getting nervous. Why would he lock the door? His eyes were darker than before. He lifted me up, placing my legs around his waist. I placed my arms around his neck in response. He walked over to the lounge chair that was in the corner. He sat down with me on his lap.

He gently tucked the lost hair strain behind my ear, lifting my head up by placing his hand under my chin. Goosebumps rose on my arms.

I saw he noticed them and smiled.

“Do I make you nervous?” He asked, softly.

“Maybe, I don’t know what you want with me.”

I saw him thinking it over, “I don’t know yet, but I would like you to stay here. With me.”

He pulled me closer, he placed his head on my neck. Sniffing me.

“Again, with the sniffing,” I said.

He let out a growl. His grip on me tightened. I tried to squirm out of his grip, but it only made his grip hurt more. With me not finding my wolf, I hurt pretty easily.

“You’re hurting me, Ares.”

He released his grip. The expression on his face changed, he didn’t mean to hurt me. He stood up, placing me back on my feet. He didn’t say a word. He left. He just left the room. I stood there, what just happened? I let out a breath and sat back down. What is up with him?

When it was almost midnight, someone knocked on the door. It startled me, I haven’t seen Carson or Ares.

“Come in.”
