An Interrupted Escape

Lydia Richmond's POV

My heart began to beat more loudly in fear. I never expected to see the maid at the hallway. It had happened already and all I had to do now was to make my way through to avoid being caught by the maids or guards.

“Nothing…” I began to smile sheepishly. I wanted to act like I was comfortable but this was quite hard for me. “Believe me, it's nothing. All I want to do is take some fresh air.”

I began to move forward but to my surprise, the maid blocked my path. This made me begin to shiver. I thought she had found out totally.

And probably, she had, at least to some extent.

“Why are you quivering? You look very nervous, milady, and it's really suspicious…” the maid told me simply. She stood there patiently and waited for my action.

This brought me back to my strategies board. In this kind of case, you could either deny or accept. Acception was no option here and denial wasn't working on the maid. I could tell from a brief glance that the maid must have spent so
