I stood there, still dumbfounded by her reaction. I had no idea what she was talking about and I was lost. Who was she referring to and who told her our deal was off?

I gulped, trying to work my head around how she’d responded, and even her calm nature regarding the books and gadgets that I’d asked Adams to return. Could it be he told her something that made her reach the conclusion that our contract was over and she was no longer of importance to me?
