I didn’t know what my father was up to, but I’d just returned from accompanying Abigail to her check-up when he called me and told me to go to the house and that it was urgent.

Abigail hadn’t expected to see me there but I had my new assistant find out what hospital her check-up was at. It was a good thing she was conversant with computers and hacking. It definitely took a lot off my workload.

She had been surprised to see me and asked if I was stalking her. She told me she didn’t need me there and I countered her, saying the baby did. It seemed like the other night was a malfunction in her daily life because she was treating me like I was invisible today.

I tried not to dwell on it too much. At least, she wasn’t screaming at me so it was a good sign.

Finally, I pulled over in the driveway of my parents’ house. I’d driven over the speed limit because of the urgency with which the old man had called, but something told me it wasn’t that urgent. I never could be too c
