49. Deafening

Abigail was sitting quietly in my car. We both were.

It was obvious she was still mad at me and I knew that I deserved it. I couldn’t even do anything about it. I’d apologized already, but then again, those were just words and I needed to show her through my actions that I was sorry.

The problem was that I didn’t know how to do that.

“Is dancing good for our baby?” I asked when the silence had become too deafening.

Her head snapped in my direction and for the first time since she entered my car, she was looking at me. “Our baby?”

“Why? Were you sleeping with another man alongside me?”

“What? No.”

“Then, the phrase is correct. Is dancing good for our baby?” I repeated the question, not caring if it sounded absurd to her. It was true anyway. The little human currently growing in her stomach was ours, together.

Abigail cleared her throat. “Um, I’m not sure.”
