Chp 1 Pt. 6 The Slave

Haley

Alpha Jake leaves the basement and I stare at the two sleeping girls next to me. Alpha Jake’s hot and cold attitude gives me whiplash. It’s like I’m his favorite pet. A stray tear falls as I wake up the girls.

“Haley! Are you okay? Where did the rag go?”

“I’m so sorry Ashley. Alpha wants you in his office, now,” I inform her in a hoarse voice.

“What?”

“He wouldn’t let me because of the wolfsbane I’ve been inhaling. I’m so sorry.”

I feel so guilty I couldn’t protect her from the Alpha longer, but I knew this eventually would happen. I wish he would just find a Luna already so he will leave us alone. Probably naive thinking, but it may be a bit better. Poor Ashley is shaking as Samantha instructs her as best as she can at what to do. We give Ashley a hug before she heads upstairs.

I look at the clock and find it’s only five thirty. I stand and quickly dress while shoving clothes into a bag for Samantha and Ashley. It’s not perfect timing and I didn't get a chance to send the witch a heads up, but they need to go now.

“What are you doing,” asks Samantha.

“Packing all your essentials and we will grab some food tonight.”

“Why?”

“You two are leaving, tonight.”

As soon as Ashley returns from Alpha Jake’s office I pull her in for a hug and whisper to her my plan.

“We can’t leave you behind Haley. Not after everything you have done.”

“You can and you will. I have tried several times but I am not fast enough. I am too weak from being here so long, you two still have your strength from before being brought here and you two have wolves. You can do this.”

I pull out my map that I keep hidden and make them study it. While we are completing our chores, we snag a few things for them to take on their journey, including some bread. I make sure we don’t miss a single chore for the day. We don’t need the Alpha coming to reprimand us if we miss something.

We are taken into town and three black cocktail dresses are purchased for us to wear at next weeks party. From what I heard, Alpha Avery is feared by all the Alpha’s, Jake included. He is more ruthless and heartless than Alpha Jake. Alpha Avery has taken out several packs that surround his when he was still a teen and merged them with his pack, making it the biggest and strongest pack.

When we return to the house we immediately head to the basement so Ashley and Samantha can finish packing what they need.

“Ashley leave that, you only need the essentials. If you can make it to the witch's house, I am sure she can help you get home.”

“Are you sure we can trust this witch? Magic folk don’t typically associate with us wolves,” says Samantha.

“I have helped many wolves escape from here and none of them have returned. I have no evidence to suggest they all got away but I have to believe that they did. My parents trusted this witch, so I do too.”

“Are you sure you can’t come with us,” cries Ashley.

“I will only slow you down, I don't have my wolf and I do not want to be the reason you two are caught and killed. I will be fine, Alpha’s pet remember.”

I try to give them my bravest smile so they will believe I will be okay. The Alpha does have a soft spot for me, though I don’t know why. If we were to be caught I might just get beat, but they would both die. I can’t let that happen, I already made that mistake once.

“I am going to go distract the Alpha. You two will not be here when I get back, understand?”

They both nod their heads as they give me one last hug. I really hope they make it. I head upstairs while the girls get ready and make a quick sweep that the chores were all done. I head into the music room to find the Alpha. He looks up at me and smiles.

“I’m sorry Alpha, I didn’t mean to disturb you. I was just checking to ensure all the chores were indeed completed today.”

“My ever faithful little wolf. Thank you Haley.”

“You’re welcome sir.”

“Haley come play something for me.”

He hands me a violin and I silently obey him. I grab the violin and play my favorite song. He watches me silently, as I close my eyes, swaying to the rhythm of the song I am playing. The sound of the bow gliding across the strings is my favorite sound in the world.

As the last note hits I finally open my eyes. Alpha Jake is watching me closely as if he is trying to study something about me and I suddenly feel self conscious. I pull the violin away from my chin and set it back down on it’s stand. Alpha Jake leaves the room without saying a word and I let out a breath I wasn’t aware I was holding. I slowly head back to the basement, taking my time to ensure the girls have enough time to get far away.

When I reach the last step I notice both Ashley and Samantha are both gone. I let out a sigh of relief, praying to the moon goddess they escaped safely. I look at my clock and wait fifteen minutes before alerting Alpha Jake. He’ll know I helped them if I don’t say something.

I knock on Alpha Jake’s door and he answers completely naked. I immediately avert my gaze.

"What!?"

“I’m sorry to disturb you again Alpha but it appears Ashley and Samantha have gone missing.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well sir when I returned from checking the chore list they were not in our room. Their things are gone as well.”

He let’s out a terrifying growl, but I remain planted in the spot I am in and keep my head down. He sends out search parties and locks the slave men in their quarters to ensure no one else leaves tonight.

“Carson!”

“Yes Alpha?”

“Take Haley back to her room and lock her in. No one else leaves tonight.”

“Yes sir.”

I am unable to sleep as I strain to listen for any news about whether the girls escaped or not. A few hours after midnight I can hear Alpha Jake let out a terrifying growl as he enters the house. I smile to myself, they got away.
