43. New Life

Elisha’s POV

After I touched my face, the nurse told me, "Don't worry, you will have surgery in the next few days, and the doctor who works at this hospital will cover all of your expenses."

I sighed deeply and asked myself, "Why was he helping me?" I only recently became aware that I have facial injuries, and it appeared that I had never recognized my face in the past.

The nurse fixed my IV and said, "His goal this year was to help people like you. Excuse me, I gotta go. I've got more to do."

I am trying to remember my name and what happened right before I got here.

I looked out the window and saw trees and flowers surrounding the sad and lonely hospital.

I got out of bed but quickly realized I was too weak to take even a single step, so I went back to sleep. Perhaps if I close my eyes, I can recall this better.

And yet, it's not.

I have no recollection of anything, not even the vague figure of a man that crossed my thoughts a few times.
