Margo was snuggled against Kane’s chest as his warm arms encircled her sleeping form. Her gentle breathing alerted him to her state of deep sleep. She was exhausted and he knew that he had been more than vigorous with her. He held her tightly in his arms, inhaling her scent. His heart squeezed painfully in his chest as he stared at her peaceful face. This was one of those rare times that she was truly peaceful and he wanted to soak up the moment. His phone ringing had him sighing even as he reached for it. He stared at the screen for a moment and sighed. He knew that Jessie would contact him the moment that she had the results of the tox screen but he had hoped to have just a bit more time with her before the world came knocking on his door.
“Hello?” He answered, gruffly.
“Hey, you got a moment?” Jessie asked, sounding slight
After the last person had left Margo sighed and sat down. She was so tired. She didn’t remember being this tired her last pregnancies. She closed her eyes intending to rest them only for a moment. Before she knew it she was sound asleep. Darkness surrounded her senses. She frowned as she took in the familiar scene before her. It had been a while since she had this dream. Even though she knew what would happen, she still found her feet carrying her towards the house. It was the same house that she had grown up in. Everything was a muted bluish gray as she took in the familiar porch. The door that once promised warmth and protection from a cruel world now looked as if it was the keeper of her nightmares. Of course in a way it was. Her bare feet halted on the grass. It was cold and pricked her feet painfully. Her own will seemed to be overpowered by something greater than her own. It urged her not to go towards the house. Margo looked around lookin
Dex was listening in on the phone calls Bernard had received when something occurred to him. Bernard would probably try to run with everything that had been uploaded on the internet. He had to admit that Ronald had done a good job getting the articles and videos out to the public. The man had practically ruined Bernard’s life and Dex felt a smug sense of satisfaction knowing that his life was ruined. Still it wasn’t enough. For every misdeed he had done or been involved with he would see it returned three fold. His smirk faded however, as soon as he noticed that some of the bugs were no longer working.“That son of a bitch is running.” He growled, as his fingers began to fly over his keyboard.Dex wasn’t about to let him run away though. With a few expert strokes of his fingers he quickly began to freeze his asset
Bernard stood outside the abandoned warehouse. He pulled back the side panel and stepped through it. He flicked the light switch and sighed when the lights flicked on. It had been a while since he had been there. He looked at the dust that had accumulated after decades of nonuse. He sighed and looked around. He hadn’t been here in years though he was glad that he had kept the building despite not knowing if he would need it. It was a part of his past. The building that gave him his start in the underworld. He began to pull back dusty tarps exposing the furniture that he had left behind. All of this seemed like a separate world from the one he had been living. Of course it was. This was his refuge when he was a teenager. He looked at the dark stain on the floor. He had been stupid when he was younger and gotten caught but he still smiled at the nostalgic memory of his first kill. This was where it had happened. He ha
A/N: Quickheads up that there is a very graphic scene ahead... It's not for the faint of heart. If you want to skip ahead look for the **** As always, I don't condone what happens in the book. “You want me to bail your boyfriend out of jail?” He asked, astounded that she had the guts to ask him something like that. “Yes. What’s so hard to understand about that?” She growled, rolling her eyes. “When the hell did your boyfriend and his problems become my problem?” He asked, frowning. “Will you do it or not?” She demanded, tapping her foot impatiently. “No. First off, this is not the way you ask a favor from someone who has constantly baile
Dex was still sitting with Maribel in his lap when his mother arrived at the club. A text alerted him to her arrival, prompting him to stand up and go to the bar area. He held Maribel’s hand as they made their way to the bar. He smiled softly when he saw his mother standing there looking around.“Mom.” He called getting her attention.“Dex, sweetie!” She said, turning with a smile on her face. She eyed Maribel curiously for a moment but smiled regardless. Her brown hair was swept up into a ponytail, showing off her regal neck. Her blue eyes held a hint of worry but sparkled with curiosity nonetheless.“Dex, who is this beautiful young woman?” She asked, turning to hug her son.
Days turned into nights and Bernard waited biding his time. He had made a few phone calls to get things rolling and now all he had to do was wait. During the time that he waited for things to take off he had bided his time and kept an eye on the articles that were now surfacing all over the internet. It seemed like this reporter had done more than just dig into his reputation here and there. No. He had managed to pull back his persona and expose him completely. His entire life was ruined and Bernard Shaw would never be able to move around like he had done before. He sneered at the newest article. This Ronald MacGuire should have kept his nose out of his business. It doesn’t really matter though. No matter how many articles he published he wouldn’t be able to outrun him. Death would be knocking on his door and soon. Bernard was so lost in his though
“I have some interesting information for you.” A voice said on the other end of the phone, causing Bernard to raise his brow in surprise.“Really?” He asked, frowning.Bernard hated surprises. That’s why he always made sure to control everything that happened in his world with an iron fist. He didn’t know if he could handle another surprise. His little song bird had done more than her fair share of screwing up his life.“I promise. The information is worth it.” He said, causing Bernard to raise a brow in disbelief.Bernard didn’t know of any particular reason why he should be excited about finding out something surprising. In fact, every surprising thing that has happened to him lately ha
Margo blinked and cleared her head as she tried to inhale. Her chest felt like it had caved in and her stomach roiled with nausea. She gripped Kane’s arm as if it was her very life line. Her heart beat a frantic rhythm in her chest as she dragged in a painful breath.“He… He went on the run?” She whispered, looking towards Maribell who wore the same pale expression on her face.“I don’t have a way to keep tabs on him anymore.” Dex whispered with shame. His heart trembled with sadness and shame as he felt as if he had let them both down. He had done everything that he could to keep an eye on him but somehow he had managed to slip through his fingers. Part of him couldn’t help but wonder if Margo and Maribell would have been better off if they had neve
