I stood up, walking towards the door, wishing that I could do or say anything to make her realize I was indeed her daughter and I was here for her.

“You said that you would pray to the Goddess to give you strength so we could meet again when the time comes. Yet here I am. I understand how difficult it is for you to acknowledge me and why you might think this is a trick, but mom, I don’t know what else to say.” I let the words roll out of my tongue as I approached the door, defeated.

“I already spent my first eighteen years without you.
