Chapter 58

I couldn’t fathom his thought process. Why had we saved him? I glanced at Blode whose expression was filled with contemplation and worry. His countenance was drawn and weary, a feeling which we all shared in that moment.

We were all completely drained from the task of rescuing him, yet there he still sat, seemingly unaware of the efforts we had gone through. He hadn't even thanked us for our efforts, despite the obvious danger and exhaustion that had overcome us during the rescue.

“What exactly are you trying to tell me, Adolf?” I stepped closer to him and shifted my stance so he could see the level of distress written all over my face.

Contemplation filled the air, only broken by the sound of our shallow breaths. His words were a bitter pill for me to swallow, and although I wanted nothing more than to ignore them entirely, there was no possible way for me to do that without consequences that would haunt me in the end.
