In the darkness of the night, I hear a faint vibration. I sit up in bed, my heart pounding. I know what it is - the burner phone I'd hidden under the mattress. Those men must be calling again. Thomas keeps attacking Lucien, his fists pummeling the man with such force that I can hear the crunch of bones breaking. They agree to my terms and ask one of the men to set me loose. I feel the chains fall away, and I'm free. I stretch my muscles, feeling the relief of finally being unrestrained. But then I look around at the devastation I've caused. I see Lauren's body, cold and lifeless. I should feel something, but I don't. All I feel is emptiness. With my mother free, and Wippet and Lucien as prisoners, Thomas has been able to seize control of the pack. I'm not sure what my next move should be. There's no way I can go back to the mansion where my father lived, not after what Lucien did. And even if I could, I'm not sure I'd want to. That place is filled with too many bad memories. So I decide to stay with my mother at the mansion where we've been staying. Even though we don't have any real jobs, Lucien's wealth is enough to last us for years to come.
