Chapter 3

 CHAPTER 3

                                                                                 ~REGINA’S POV~

Our eyes collided in the most intense staring contest in the history of humankind. The air was tense as neither of us was willing to back down for the other.

Every breath we took. Every drop of sweat running down our necks, every thought that ran through our heads, and every rise and fall of our chests was a fight for dominance. A competition where only one victor can emerge victorious.

Emotions rushed through me as I stood in front of him. Emotions that held my soul in a vice grip. Rage. Hatred. Lust. Disgust. The ingredients you would need to create a disaster.

A pair of cloudy-colored eyes, a pair of full lips, a perfectly shaped nose, a short mop of black hair, and 193cm worth of height made up the Alpha of the pack I swore to destroy a long time ago.

“Aren't you going to say something?” I asked with all the nonchalance in the world, my eyes not once leaving him afraid of losing this unspoken competition where the reward is the loser's life.

“No. I like the silence.”

His voice sent a shiver down my spine, followed by the nausea that almost came up my throat.

“Then why did your junkies bring me here?”

“I don't know…”

He stood to his height and walked towards me with slow, confident strides. Each step was a preprogrammed movement, fast enough to approach your enemy and slow enough to dodge their attack.

Silly boy. I wasn't going to attack him. Not yet, at least.

He came to a stop in front of me. My face was mere inches from his chest, and the scent of oak trees and mint filled my nostrils. A combination it didn't know existed but smelled so good.

“...you tell me, princess.”

“I'm not a princess.”

“Of course, you are not. You are a dirty bitch who fights like a man.”

“I'd rather be a dirty bitch that fights for what's right than to be a classy bitch that hides from the truth.”

“What good is there to fight for the truth when everyone else knows it's a lie.”

“A truth that no one knows about is not a lie but a mystery. And when that mystery is solved, the recognition that comes with it is gratifying.”

“Is that what this is about? Recognition?”

“It's about getting justice for everyone in the blue lily pack.”

“If anyone needs justice, it's the Moon Crescent pack.”

“Bullshit! We have suffered in your hands for a hundred years!”

“And we have lost everything to your pack for just as long! Why are you so insufferable anyway?”

“Guess we have something in common, pretty boy.”

“Sorry, I'm not a whore like you…”

A loud smack sound bounced off the walls in the room, and I didn't know what happened till a sharp pain ran through my palm, and his face was tilted to the side.

I slapped him.

Before I could comprehend my next thought, he wrapped his hand around my neck, and just as he was about to lift me off the ground and lead me to my second death, the unthinkable happened.

From the point where his skin came in contact with mine came a surge of lightning, which set all of my insides on fire. My vision was stained red, and a moan fell from my lips.

No. It can't be! It can't be!

A pink hue painted itself across his cheeks, and with widened eyes, he whispered a question to the wind.

“Mate?”

~KILLIAN’S POV~

Regina Shepard is my mate. Regina Shepard is my mate. Regina Shepard, AKA the fucking Queen of War, is my mate!

I dropped her body to the floor and put distance between the two of us as a million questions ran through my mind.

Seven billion people in the world, and I was mated to the one person I want dead—the woman who has led 14 raids on my pack in the past year.

Is this some sick joke, dear goddess?

“You look like you've seen a ghost, pretty boy. Is everything ok?”

I spun around and came face to face with the villain in this twisted story. A blank look was plastered on my face, and although she had a smirk on her lips, it failed to hide the pale complexion of her skin and the pounding of her heart. She's just as nervous as I am. Maybe even more.

“What's got you in a twist? Scared of having a mate?”

The blank expression on my face didn't waver as I spoke with a low voice.

“I'm not scared of having a mate. Hell, I prayed for her to come to me, but even a desperate man like me wouldn't accept a woman like you.”

Her smirk dropped, and an unfamiliar emotion flashed between her eyes, but before I could decipher them, It was gone as quickly as it came. And then she spoke.

“Reject me then.”

The thought struck my soul harder than it was designed to, and although it would be the literal answer to my problems, I couldn't bring myself to do something like that. So, instead of answering, I ignored her and turned to the mirror before me. The man staring back at me looked nothing like the Alpha that walked into the room for 20 minutes.

The former was a man of confidence. He was an enigma to all who watched him. The latter was the pathetic representation of himself, who was torn between killing the woman behind him or taking her against the wall.

“Shit!” I cursed and then punched the mirror in front of me. The blood dripping down my fingers did nothing to ease the anxiety I felt.

I need to talk to Callum.

Just then, the door burst open, and my brother marched into the room with clenched fists and red ey

es filled with anger. His eyes searched till they landed on Regina.

“There you are.”

Oh shit.
