Chapter 9

While Vicky sped off, Aurora reduced her speed until the others were in front of her. She didn’t care about the race anymore. While still absentmindedly following the others, she didn’t notice the fact that the red reduced his speed. It was only when he was near her that she noticed it. “Hey, little one, do you think you can beat me in this race? Remember that you’re just a girl, and this place is not for girls like you,” he whispered, his voice rough and full of malicious intent. With that said, he pushed Aurora off the track.

After seeing that she had fallen out of the racetrack, he placed both hands around his mouth and shouted, "Someone fell off the racetrack!" This prompted all the racers to stop. They all turned back and came in to assess the situation, putting aside their race. Everyone discussed how it happened. The red racer stomped his leg on the floor, saying, "I told you it wasn't good to have this girl with us. See the problems it's bringing us now," pointing as if he was right all along. Sky, who was still shocked by the girl falling off the track, said, "Damon, calm down. We must first call the ambulance," his voice serious. Vicky, on the other side, went to check if Aurora was okay. What she saw made her smile.

Aurora, on the other hand, after being pushed down, had some problems steadying herself and the bike until it stopped. She then got down to inspect if anything was out of place, removed her helmet, and let her hair flow down freely on her shoulders. Thanks to the bike’s shock absorber, she was able to be safe. She then glanced around to assess her situation. But when she thought about the origin of her present dilemma, the only thing she described him with was ‘dumb child’. "I was silently enjoying myself on the side, but he still saw me as a nuisance. What a really dumb child! But since he saw me as a threat, why not scare him now?" With that thought in mind, she climbed back on her bike, warmed up the machine, and put back her helmet.

Because of the noise at the top, they failed to notice the noise caused by the engine. Vicky, who was the first to notice the sound, moved forward to take a look. What she saw made her smile. She turned to walk away and climbed on her bike, but Sky held her wrist with his brows furrowed. "Your friend just fell down the little cliff, and all you want to do is continue the race," he said, his voice laced with slight disbelief. Vicky was slightly stunned since he was the nearest to the cliff. How could he have reached her side so fast? But she reined in her emotions and offered him a smile. She spoke with truthful seriousness, "Tell your friends to come; let’s continue the race. No need to worry about her; she is fine." Sky looked into her bright black eyes that seemed to speak the truth. He still seemed to worry about the other but decided to trust her words. He alerted his friends to come, and they continued the race. But before that, he called an ambulance.

When hearing this, his friends were quite surprised because from what they knew about Sky, he was a guy with a strong sense of responsibility. Since he was the one to propose the race to those girls, they thought the race would be annulled. However, he decided to continue. They still obeyed and went to climb on their bikes and continued the race. As usual, the green and the white were at the front, followed by the others. Unknown to them, the red guy was all smiles inside his helmet.

When the race continued, Sky leaned towards Vicky with a little bit of worry, still not totally convinced. "Are you sure it was the right decision? She could have been hurt," he asked, his voice still laced with uncertainty. The other party just chuckled, "Don’t worry. If she was weak, I would have worried, but she isn’t," she spoke as if trying to soothe a child. "But how can she be o-" he was still talking when he felt a shadow hovering over him. It felt like time flowed slowly around him as the shadow of the bike passed by slowly and landed in front of him.

Aurora drove her bike at a low speed just to have a view of how she could leave this cliff. Until she saw a concave slope, she broke into a wide grin. She rolled twenty meters back and then went at full speed. Thanks to her speed and the slope, she found herself in the air for a moment, and gravity brought her back down enough to land back on the racetrack. She appeared a few meters away from the green and white racer.

That is where he noticed the black bike, but what surprised him was the girl sitting on the bike as if she were not the one that just fell from the sky. He now understood why Vicky didn’t show too much of a hint of worry, as if she knew that Aurora would have come. He was still reveling in his surprise when something suddenly popped up in his mind. "If she had this type of skill, how could she be in an accident apart from..." He didn’t have the courage to finish, but it was apparent that it wasn’t a simple accident. He looked behind at his friends, who all stood still in surprise by what happened earlier.

Vicky, who was looking at her friend from a distance with her face full of relief hidden away by the helmet, it was true. Even though she appeared not worried, her back must be drenched with cold sweat, but she was okay seeing Aurora back. Her gaze still fixed on her friend’s back, she opened her mouth after a long moment, her tone as cold as an ice cube, “Now you saw it for yourself. With her level of skills, do you think it was a simple accident?” It sounded like a question, but it was more like a matter of fact, her no more spotting a hint of a smile from earlier.
