77 Grave Error

Running a swift look around the room, I realised some facts, which if I had been thinking more clearly I would have noticed earlier.

The room was almost a total blackness and looking round, I saw that the light had been switched off and the curtains drawn closed, leaving just one slightly opened, to cast shades in the room for one to see lightly and move about.

Turning my eyes slowly to look at the quiet woman on the bed, I finally noticed the strains behind her face and eyes and I swore softly. She winced and I knew she thought the swearing had been directed at her.

“Are you sick?” I thought I asked softly but when she winced again, I knew I must have sounded harsh from the frustration of sudden concern.

I saw the small nod she gave to my answer and I closed my eyes tightly. Regretting the impulse that had made me barge in here.

With a groan, I remembered my disappointment and hurt when the HR had informed me she was not at work. Swearing softly, I had thought I could ignor
