46: Shine your light

Kayla’s POV

Sapphire came out of her room fuming with anger. Just then Max’s mother started to climb up the stairs whilst asking excitedly for the next Luna. I quickly went up to Sapphire and tried to help her calm down which she did quite easily and just in time, she smiled at Max’s mother and lowered her head in greeting.

“ Aren’t you one of her sisters? Come on let’s go. The ceremony is about to start.” She said to me and I smiled and nodded at her. This woman’s husband died yesterday and she’s being all smiles today, that was very suspicious. Too suspicious in fact. But since they said he died a peaceful death, I decided not to read meaning into anything.

We stayed in a tent outside just a stone's throw from the open field where Max’s father’s funeral was to be held as well as Max’s new reign as Alpha. Considering how much Hector has told me about Max being so ambitious about being Alpha, Max looked very upset and unenthusiastic about everything.
