Chapter Nine

Regina's day would have been better, not until the boss showed up at noon and the company turned into chaos with everyone trying to get everything done as soon as possible.

Daniel showed up at her office, she didn't realize his presence because of how engrossed she was. Regina lifted her head up as he cleared his throat and upon seeing Daniel, she smiled.

"Hey Daniel"

"Long time no see Regina" He sounded as if he was just seeing her after so many years.. He's exaggerating.

"It's just a few days Daniel"

"And you didn't care to check up on me!"

Regina felt guilty instantly. He was right. She should have gone to his department and maybe invited him to lunch or something. it's a little something she could have done.

"I'm so sorry Daniel.. I've just been occupied with so much work"

Chuckling.. He said "Everyone is.. But, that won't stop us from having our lunch breaks. Let's have lunch together"

"Uh! I don't think I'll be going , Daniel.. I still have a lot of files to go through and there are so many errors to be corrected. I need to round...."

Regina was still saying when her tommy growled loudly to Daniel's hearing. Great!

"So?..."

"Fine!.. Let's go!"

---------

Regina ordered some Apple pie and a glass of Juice while Daniel got himself some chips and also a glass of Juice. As Regina ate, she admired the cafeteria that was close to being a five star restaurant.

The cafeteria was crowded with the entire employees.. This is the only free time for everyone to bond with each other. In a few minutes time, everyone would be back to their normal work routine until the day is over.

"So, Tell me how work has been?" Daniel broke the silence, starting up a conversation.

"Stressful.. "

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it soon. Take a look at us, we get drowned in work but don't feel it. Our bodies are used to the stress already"

Regina ached her brows and said wow!

After lunch, Daniel saw her off to her office then left to his, not without Regina thanking him for the meal. He played the gentleman role by paying the bills.

Regina got back to work and it wasn't long before the telephone rang.. Placing it in her ears, she heard a familiar but pissed voice over the phone and she knew who that was.

"Ms Campbell.. To my office"

Recognizing the voice as that of her boss.. Hills Sebastian, her heart skipped and she sprang to her feet at once and headed to his office.

She couldn't help but feel agitated as to why Hills would call for her. However, she got to his office and placed a gentle knock on the door, then she heard a faint come in.

Walking in, she met Hills facing the window - He was backing her and going through a file.

"You called for me Sir" She said

It took a while before Hills closed the file he was staring at and turned to Regina. He threw the file on his desk and tucked his both hands into his trousers.

"Yes I called you Ms Campbell.. Take that file and have a look at it"

Regina took the file and carefully scrutinized it.. She recognized it as the file she had worked on last night.

"Did you work on this file?" Again, Hills asked.

"I did Sir..."

"Good..! So, why are there so many errors in it? You did not go over it did you?.."

Regina was speechless.. She typed the document in a rush yesterday because she was tired and needed to go home, and she didn't bother to go through it.

"I have a meeting in half an hour and it's important I use this file. Go over it again Ms Campbell and ensure that there isn't a single error in it. Get it done as soon as possible"

"Right away sir!"

With that, Regina left and immediately got to work.. She was surprised with the way he spoke to her a while back.. He doesn't seem angry with the fact that she made errors with the document.

Why didn't he yell at her like every other boss does? If she can recall correctly, Daniel had told her that the Boss hates mistakes and expects efficiency from every employee.

Anyways, she rounded up the work as fast as she could and went back to Hill's office.. Fortunately, there wasn't any error.

The day went by pretty fast and Regina didn't realize that it was already so late. She didn't realize the other employees had left the company because she has been so engrossed in so much work.. Her supervisor wouldn't let her breath.

By the time she realized the time, it was already so late and she was left with just two documents to sort. Since it's Friday, she decided to round up everything before going home so the work wouldn't bleed into the weekend.

She took the coffee and sipped from it, then rubbed her eyes and yawned.. If not for the coffee, she would have fallen asleep on her desk.

Meanwhile, Hills Sebastian rounded up his own work, grabbed his suit and keys and walked out of the office.. Colin won't be picking him up tonight.

He took the elevator to the lobby and just as he was about to exit it, something caught his attention. He stepped back a bit and looked to his right. He furrowed his brows as he found Regina still in her office doing some work. He watched her for a while and noticed how tired she is and how she kept massaging her neck.

He walked into her office and cleared his throat. Regina who didn't think the boss would still be in the office, gasped in shock.. To her, she thought he'd left.

"Why are you still working?" Hills asked and proceeded before she could give an answer.

"Wrap it up and go home. There's no need to work until midnight. It's not healthy"

"I.. I just don't want it to bleed into the weekend sir. It's not that much, I can still finish it before going home" Regina said.

"When your boss tells you to stop working and go home, you should do as told and not argue"

"But..."

Regina wanted to argue further but the Stern look from Hills made her swallow up her words. She hates the fact that he just made her stop working.. Sighing, she stood up, grabbed her bag and walked past him because he wouldn't leave until she did.

Regina had a huge frown on her face as she walked out of the company. Outside, it was drizzling accompanied by low thundering sounds. She knew it was going to rain any moment from now.. Heck! How is she going to find a cab?

She checked her wristwatch and groaned.. It's so late, she really needs to go home before the heavy rain comes. The streets look empty and there's no sign of cabs or anything.

She thought of calling Daphne, she pulled out her phone but found no signal.

"Damnit!!" She cursed and placed her phone back into her bag.

Hills has been watching Regina from a distance. He knew she must be waiting for a cab.. But there's no can by this time of the night. He ignited his car and drove towards her, then pulled to a stop in front of her and pulled his windows down and tucked his head out a bit

"Hop in! I'll drop you off"

Regina was surprised to see her boss in front of her and he told her to hop in, surprised her more.

"Uh!?"

"Should I repeat myself?"

"No thanks Sir.. I'll just get a cab home" Regina argued.. There's no way she's going to get into his car, or let him take her home.

Hills ached his brows.. This lady is testing his damn patience. Must she argue with everything?.

"Fine then! You can stay here and wait for a cab.. That's if you're going to find one. It's raining and by time, it's... 11:30pm and no cab works by this time"

He ignited his car and was about to drive off when Regina immediately asked him to stop. Having no other choice, she got in.

"Give me directions to your apartment"

With that, Hills drives off. Aside from giving him directions, Regina didn't say any other thing.

It was raining heavily when Hills pulled to a stop in front of her apartment. It was really difficult driving but he just had to try his way through to get her home.

"How will you get home sir!? It's pretty dangerous!!" Regina said further after saying Thank you to him.

"It's nothing I can't do!" Hills responded. He could barely see through his glass.

Regina wasn't sure of that.. As a matter of fact, she was worried.. The streets are empty and the rain is pouring heavily, it won't be safe for him to drive home.

She wasn't sure of what to do but she did the very first thing that crossed her mind.

"I don't think you can drive home sir.. Why don't you spend a night at my home"

Hills looked at her for a while, then nodded.

Hills took an umbrella and they both rushed into the apartment.. Inviting him over wasn't a bad decision, at least it's her own little way of repaying his favor.

But then, how would she sleep knowing that her Boss is in the same house with her.
