Chapter 3

Melanie's Point Of View

As the sun showers heat to everyone, my blood also boils whenever I think of what that impostor have said and done! He’s a scumbag. He is a total trash that needed to be dumped.

“Hey, do you have any issue on that rag?”

My thought was disrupted because of Jazon’s voice. I looked down the rag I am holding while wiping the table, it was crumpled.

“You just made it worst.”

“What? Me? What did I do?” he confusingly asked.

“Showing your face.” I brought my cleaning tools and head towards the backdoor.

After he said those, the man in the hospital, my mind literally stopped functioning for a second. I was dumbfounded and don’t know what to react and say. And because I am to naive about anything related to surrogacy, I agreed. That earned me a smirk from him.

He stand so proud and led the way towards the closed room for check-ups, I guess. My heart was thumping so fast and my sweat keeps on coming out. But, I never showed any expressions to him.

When I was about to lay and do what he wanted me to do, the door opened, revealing a middle aged woman in her white coat. I instantly stand straight with a racing heart beat. Turned out that she was the real doctor I supposed to meet, and that guy who pretened was her co-worker and unfortunately the owner of the hospital.

I just can’t handle my mind and rage that time that’s why I threw him a hard punch on the face. His nose even bled! With full of furious, I walked out the hospital and regretted my decision on considering surrogacy. I would die to learn witchcraft just to kill that jerk!

“Looks like you’re in a bad mood.”

I gazed the person in front of me, holding his nebulizer.

“You okay?” I asked as I piled the old newspaper aside.

“Yeah, enough not to kill me,” Levi joked.

He has an asthma. He was already carrying that illness since he was a child. He treated nebulizers as his best toy. And of course, I knew everything about him. He’s my childhood friend.

“So what pisses you up, stern-looking-girl.”

“Something related to men,” I rigidly answered.

He dramatically touched his chest and made a crying face.

“Oh! Is it because of me?”

“How can you say it’s because of you?”

“Well, I’m just used that the people around can’t get used to me. You know, perks of being so handsome.” I shook my head in disbelief, things never changed.

After piling the newspapers, I went back inside to change my clothes and preapre to out. Still have two more jobs.

“Why do you keep on working, Mel? It seems that you’re supporting for a bunch of people,” Levi uttered as he keeps on following me.

“I have a future to secure, Levi. I was not born with a golden spoon in the mouth,” I sternly asnwered.

I fixed the vendo machine on the side and refill its cups.

“What future? You’re killing yourself by working too hard.”

“Why are you so affected? It’s nkt your body who’ll get tired.” I shrugged my shoulders at him. He sighed and blankly looked at me.

“I just don’t want you to die without giving up your V card,” he reasoned out.

It may sound pervert to others but mot to me. He always use that excuse from stopping me from working for seven years now.

“Levi, I need to work for myself.”

“Come on! Quit your two jobs already! I can feed you,” he sincerely said.

I can’t stop my smile from showing. Atleast, he contirbuted some positivity today.

“Levi, you’re such—”

“Oh, stop it people! I’m sick hearing your chitchats, people. Why don’t you marry each other?” Jazon interrupted using his irritated voice.

“Didn’t know you were listening,” I said.

After putting all the cups, I washed my hands on the corner and put some sanitizers.

“Well, isn’t that a great choice, Mel?” Levi teasingly asked.

I did not bother to look at him and rushed towards the locker room. Levi is a good friend. And I never imagined him as someone doing romantic relationship with me. That’s a total no no.

I left the coffee shop and quickly went to the bar. I am also planning to resign in here since most people are rude and brat. Just like what I’ve encountered the other day while I’m on my way out. A blonde girl slipped on the floor and put the blame to the workers. Tss, that’s stressful to handle.

“Hey, you’re on time!” Ketish welcomed me. She’s one of the owner of this bar that is also why I can’t easily leave this job. Ketish is a long time friend.

“Obviously.”

I prepared myself for work while Ketish went to every table. It seems that she have known every regular customer in here. This is a high end bar and most people who came here are rich, popular, and drop-dead gorgeous.

The time quickly passed and the bar was getting full. This place never ran out of customers even in weekdays.

“A whisky and brandy on coconut 4,” a waiter instructed the bartender.

Coconut 4 is a table. We have a lot of names on it but only the stuffs can understand. I am also a waiter and a server but I don’t dress like other gurls here. We were given a chance to chose whether to wear the mini dress for waitress or the formal polo and slocks. Of course, all of them chose the first one. Only me who picked the latter.

“Miss, can you open this for me?” A man approached me, handing the bottle of beer.

“Sure, Sir.” I immediately opened it and handed over but then he suddenly slapped my hands, causing the drink to spill on my polo.

“Oh, my bad.” He was not sorry. I heard him and his friends laugh on the near table. Rude teenagers.

“That’s fine, Sir.” I pulled my handkerchief and wiped my polo.

I was about to walk away when he suddenly blocked my way.

“Don’t go. I am not starting yet,”he said.

The music was loud and my other co-workers are busy doing their job. I cleared my throat and stared at him intently.

“If you mind sir, I still have work to do.” I tried to keep my voice flinty but he just gave a grin.

This is also why I don’t trust men. They only want to have fun and doesn’t care at all. He started moving towards me but I kept steady on my position. One thing you should not let them see, is that you were intimidated and scared.

“You think you’re brave?” I did not dare to answer.

I saw on my peripheral vision that his friends were shouting and booing him.

“You aren’t scared of me? At all?” His smirk grew wider and desperately took the broken bottle on the floor.

I heard his one colleague shouted "do it" and was later on became their chant. Tsk, kids nowadays.

His eyes was fiercely looking at me. Now I get why he is acting like that. He is under pressure by his so called friends. This is also one of the reasons why I keep my circle small but with those loyal and good influence people.

“Ah, I see. You’re their puppet for tonight,” I said, triggering him more.

“What did you say?” he shockingly asked. But in his eyes, I saw pain.

“Nothing, coward.” And with that word, he finally reached his limit and ran towards me.

I did not dare to move because I also knew what he felt... ‘cause I was also been there. I keep my eyes open and waited for his stab but suddenly, when he was inch closer to me, a big musculine arm covered my face. And in an instant, I saw blood dripping from it.

My eyes grew big and my lips part a little. I was speechless. I tried to look at the man but his face was looking to that boy.

“Tsk, why do I always need to see your shocked reaction?” the man hissed.

He put down his arms and slowly turned his face to me.

“Hello, Ms. One punch girl. I got that nickname when you left a strong punch before walking out the hospital,” he said with playful grin.
