"Is it true, Tanya?" I pressed, my voice trembling slightly. My stepsister stood before me, her eyes wide and shimmering with unshed tears.

"Of course not, Margareth! I swear it isn't true! How could you think that of me? You're not just a stepsister to me, and you know that! You are my sister in every way that matters," she whispered back, her voice cracking under the weight of emotion.

A flicker of hope sparked in my eyes, brightening them. "Really?"

"O-Of course, Margs. Remember those times we twirled in front of the mirror, laughing until our stomachs hurt? Goddess, how I miss those moments!" Her whisper was a gentle brushstroke of the memory.

My eyes watered as I looked at her. "I miss you."

"I miss you too, sister. Look at you, all grown up," she said, her gaze sweeping over me.

As she neared, her eyes flicked briefly to Thomas, who still held a protective grip on me.

She dipped her head respectfully at him.
