May’s POV

The ride was a blur, my mind preoccupied with what Ellen wanted to discuss.

We hadn't spoken much about things since Asher and I separated, only for a day and not for long. She had been supportive, yes, but there was always a sense of unspoken concern, a mother's worry for her child's future.

She was probably getting worried with how frantic Asher was, and wanted to talk about it. Just last week though, she had told me in her invitation letter to the auction to make him sweat.

I sighed, and stopped thinking about that, looking out the window of the cab I was riding to the restaurant Ellen had told me.

The city lights streaked by as we made our way to the restaurant, and I felt a twinge of nervousness at the thought of delving into the topic of Asher and I, and what lay ahead for us… or what didn't.
