Long after Emma confessed, Jamie remained silent. To make matters worse for her, his expression remained completely unreadable, increasing her inner turmoil. After everything that had happened today, he was the only person Emma was fearful of losing. In its own twisted way, he managed to carve a space in her heart that nobody had filled before, and the mere thought of it becoming empty again frightened her. He needed to be on her side.
