4 - Car Ride

My parents lived three hours away in a small, quiet town as a part of their retirement. My dad was a big part of the pack, and retirement was a pretty big thing for him to do. After all the excitement that comes with managing the pack, I wasn’t surprised that my parents wanted some peace.

I threw my bag in the backseat along with my phone and started. I knew I wasn’t going to come back for at least two days, and I wouldn’t have to face Kate or Cale. Kate didn’t know what I was going through, and Cale was just an asshole.

Turning up the music, I rolled the windows down, leaving my worries behind and putting Mr. Alpha out of my mind. I knew I could never tell my parents that Cale was my mate, and he rejected me. They would probably break a few of his essential body parts.

One hour into the drive, the car started slowing down and stopped. “Fuck.”

I got out of the car, only to see that I had a flat tire. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire. What else could go wrong in my life? I reached into my backseat, preparing myself to call my dad, grovel a little and promise that I would definitely learn how to change the tire. And to make the day much worse, my phone had already died.

“Okay,” I muttered to myself, “Lise, you can do it. You’ve seen people on TV do it. How hard can it be anyways?”

Very hard, it turned out, considering I had no tools, no phone and was stuck. God only knew where. Maybe this was how I died, or worse. I sat back in the car, trying to come up with a second game plan.

I could either get out on the road, try to hitch a ride and leave my car here. Or, I could stay here in the hopes that someone would realise that I was missing. I could also run in my wolf form, but we usually avoided doing that in places we were not very familiar with. I would definitely be shot.

“Plan 1, it is,” I muttered to myself. I got out of the car, standing on the highway. I was going to try and bum a ride from someone who looked like they would not murder me. Just as the 10th car passed me, I saw a very familiar car and groaned.

If I could get out of the road fast enough, he wouldn’t notice me, and go his way. But I was his mate, and I’m sure he had already sensed that I was around.

“Lord,” I muttered as I watched Cale park his car and angrily walk towards me.

“What do you think you’re doing?” he almost yelled at me.

I rolled my eyes, “Looking to pick up a hot guy to run away with, what does it look like I’m doing?”

He glared at me, “Stop it. What happened?”

I waved at my tire, “That.”

“You could have called Triple A.”

“Thanks, genius,” I muttered, “My phone died.”

Cale sighed, “Do you have an extra tire?”

“No,” I was annoyed at myself. Who the hell doesn’t have an extra tire?

Cale muttered something, before sighing, “Where are you going?”

“To my parent’s place.”

“I’ll take you,” he said, before walking back to his car.

“No, thanks,” I yelled out, “I’d rather get murdered by creeps!”

Cale turned around, anger blazing in his eyes. “Don’t fuck around, Lisa.”

“It’s Lise,” I almost yelled, “And I’m not fucking around, I don’t want to go with you.”

“Lisa. Get. In. The. Fucking. Car.”

“No,” I was nothing if not stubborn.

The next thing I knew, I was in the air, and on his shoulder.

“What the fuck, Cale?!” I yelled, as I hit his back. “Put me down!”

He didn’t say anything as he walked towards his car, opening the passenger side door and almost throwing me in. Before I could even move, Cale was all up in my personal space, his gorgeous eyes capturing mine.

“Cale,” I started, and before I could say another word, his lips were on mine. It was difficult to believe that I already kissed him once, and was doing it again. As his lips moved with mine, I could feel all common sense leave my body, and just as I started to move my hands, there was a click, and Cale moved away.

“Keys,” he muttered, holding out his hand.

It took me a couple of seconds to come back to reality, and I realised Cale had distracted me by kissing while he basically locked me in with the seat belt. I looked blankly at him, refusing to even answer.

“Stop behaving like a child, and give me your keys, Lisa. Now,” he gritted out, and I could see a vein pop in his head. I unclenched my hand, and dropped my keys into his hand.

He came back with my bag and phone, tossing both in the backseat.

“What about my car?”

“I’ll have someone from the pack pick it up,” he answered.

“Thanks,” I muttered and started fiddling with the radio until I reached a station I liked.

I could see give me the side eye, sigh and shook his head. This was going to be a long fucking ride.
