5 - Home… Sweet Home?

As it turned out, ignore someone well enough, and you might actually end up having fun. I didn’t even try to make conversation with Cale, as I knew for a fact that would be useless.

I sang along to the songs, rolled the windows down and just took in the scenic drive. I didn’t want to be in a sour mood before I went to see my parents, and I had decided that Cale was not going to bring me down. I wouldn’t let him.

I was already almost out of the car before Cale even parked, grabbing my stuff from the back. “Thanks,” I muttered as he parked and hopped out of the car like my ass on fire.

I rang the doorbell, hoping that Cale wouldn’t come out to meet my parents.

Mom opened the door, surprise crossing her face as she looked at me. “Lisa, honey!” She hugged me tight, just as Dad walked out.

“Lisa! Cale?” Dad wasn’t sure what emotion to convey.

I offered a short explanation, hoping it would be enough, “Car broke down, ran into him, and he offered me a ride.”

Dad looked questioningly at Cale, “What brings you all the way here?”

“Pack business, Mr. Flynn. I was hoping I could get your advice on some things.”

I walked into the house with Mom, and heard Dad invite Cale inside.

“I’ll be in the office,” Dad called out, before giving me a warning look, “Behave.”

“I’m not going to do anything!” I put up my hands innocently. I had a history of pulling pranks on my dad, which usually ended up with him cursing, and almost throwing me out of the house every time. I was sure he didn’t want to do anything now that Mr. Alpha was here.

“Everything okay, Lisa?” Mom asked, as Dad and Cale walked away. Mom was the only one who called me Lisa.

‘Apart from Cale,’ the thought popped into my head.

I sighed, realising Mom was still waiting for me to answer, “Of course, why wouldn’t it be?”

“You don’t come down here in the middle of college.”

“I just missed you guys,” I tried very hard to sound enthusiastic, “And, I know Joey is here, and I was going to come to see him anyways.”

Joey’s name was enough for my mom to take my word. Joey was one of my very best friends in the world, and I knew meeting him would definitely put me in a great mood.

“Can we bake cookies later though?” I asked, trying to play the emotional card. I didn’t come down to meet my parents in the right between classes like this, ever, and she was definitely going to be investigative.

Mom smiled, “Sure, honey. Get your stuff upstairs, rest a little, and I’ll call you down when I start.”

I picked up my bag, took my dead phone and ran up like the ground floor was on fire. I completely forgot to text Kate, and I needed to do that before she got in touch with my mom and mom figured out that something was wrong with me. As soon as I put my phone for charge, I dropped a message and flopped on the bed.

I could sense Cale around me, and it calmed me down. I didn’t want it to, but that’s how it worked with mates. Irrespective of whether you wanted them or not, every time they were near you, it calmed you down and excited you. You felt like the safest person in the world. Taking a deep breath, I flopped on the bed, hoping to get a couple of hours of sleep.

I woke up to a knock on the door, and I am not sure if I answered. The second knock irritated me, and I put the pillow over my head.

‘Go away,’ I thought, ‘Let me sleep.’

The door opened, and I knew it was him even before I looked up. “Your parents want you to come down for dinner.”

“You’re staying for dinner?” I almost yelled, knowing very well it was a rude thing to ask, but well, what was I going to do? Dinner with Cale wasn’t something I really wanted to be a part of.

“I’m leaving tomorrow,” Cale said.

“Why?” I sat up, now curious. I knew Cale didn’t want to be in the same place as me, not that I wanted to be in the same place as him anyways.

“Pack business,” he said, “Anyways, you should come down.” With that he walked out of the room. Great, I sighed. As if one car ride with him wasn’t enough, now I had to suffer through dinner. I got out of bed, taking my phone out of the charger. It had one message from Kate - ‘Have fun’.

When I went down I could already hear my mom laughing. God, I hope Cale wasn’t making her laugh. I knew my parents were fond of Cale and also really liked him as Alpha.

“Hey,” I said, flopping on the one empty chair on the table. Thankfully, it was next to dad.

“And the sleeping beauty awakes,” my mom said jokingly. “Your dad and I are going to watch a movie tonight, you want to join us?”

“No, thanks,” I said, feeling guilty. It was bad enough that I had come here, unannounced, I wasn’t going to ruin their date nights. “I’ll watch something at home.”

“You sure?” Dad asked, looking over me. I knew in that minute that he knew something was wrong.

“Yes, Father,” I rolled my eyes, “I’ll go for some ice cream with Joey, get back home and watch a movie. You’ll probably be the one waking me up or carrying me to bed. I vote for option number two.”

Dad laughed, then looked at Cale, “She’s really something else, our Lisa.”

I saw Cale’s face almost go pale. “Yeah, she is,” he replied, his eyes not leaving my face.

“Okay then,” I muttered, taking my empty place as I got up, “As fun as this dinner has been, I’m going out.”

“Have fun, sweetheart,” Mom said.

I went into my room to put on my shoes, and just as I was stepping out, I came face to face with Cale.

“What the hell are you doing here Cale?” I hissed, closing the door with my foot so that my parents couldn’t hear us. The perks of having a werewolf family was superhuman hearing. Thankfully all the rooms in this house were sound proofed.

“Where are you going?” he growled.

“None of your business,” I stated.

“It is my business,” Cale replied, “I’m your m-- Alpha.”

“Right. Mr. Alpha, I will do whatever the hell I want, and this is my house. You cannot stop me.”

“Lisa,” he sounded exasperated, “Why are you so stubborn?”

“Cale,” I rolled my eyes at him, “Please leave me be. You came here for pack business, not as my personal bodyguard. See you later.”

Before he could say anything else, I opened the door and walked out of the house.
