9 - Hurts Like a Bitch

Cale’s POV

What?! My wolf rose to the surface, wanting to go claim Lisa as mine right now. Without saying a word to Kate, I flew out of my chair and ran out of the building. I got into my car, breaking a couple of traffic laws on my way to Lisa’s apartment. She was not going to become a human. Becoming a human was considered treason in the werewolf world, unless you had a good reason. And that reason was usually if you had a human mate or if you mate had rejected you. Yes, I was aware of the irony.

Becoming a human would mean that werewolf immunity wouldn’t apply to the person. They were susceptible to everything humans were - illness, getting old faster and war. I would not let that happen with Lisa. She was my mate, damn it!

I pounded my fist on her door till she finally opened it. She looked like she had been sleeping, but the bags under her eyes looked worse than they ever had.

“Cale?” she sounded confused, “What are you doing here?”
