Chapter 29

Kevin gently stroked Alice’s hair. After a while, Alice pulled back and stared up at Kevin. Kevin was not much taller than her, but she still had to look up a little bit to look him in the eyes. Alice's eyes revealed what she wanted him to do. Kevin did not think twice, he cupped her face with both hands. Alice closed her eyes taking in every moment with him. ‘How could something like this be real? How could he finally be holding me like this? This must be some kind of dream. Things like this do not happen to me.’ Alice thought to herself. Then she felt his lips against her forehead, Alice kept her eyes closed not daring to open them. Kevin softly kissed her on the tip of her nose. She felt him pull away. She felt his stare on her lips. One second, two seconds, and then she felt his soft lips against hers. He kissed her as if she would disappear as if he did not kiss her hard enough. She let him slip his tongue into her mouth. Alice had never kissed anyone before, but she let Kevin take the lead. Allowing him to devour her lips until they were both searching for air. Kevin pulled back and laid his forehead against her. Alice licked her swollen lips and stared down at his while his hands were holding her face.

“We should go…” Kevin was the first to break the silence. Alice had forgotten the dead body that lay a few feet away from them. Kissing Kevin and being in his arms made her feel like she was in the best place she had ever been in her life.

Alice could not get herself to speak so she only nodded. They both pulled away. Kevin took her hand in his. Alice took her phone out to arrange for her people to deal with the scumbag's dead body but Kevin placed his hand over her phone. Alice looked confused up at him.

“Don’t worry. I will let my men clean up,”

Alice never trusted anyone with clean up behind her except her people. If the scene was not cleaned precisely, it could be traced back to you. No one wanted unnecessary headaches, but this was not anyone this was Kevin. Alice nodded and slid her phone back into her pocket.

Alice watch as Kevin arranged his men. As he ended the call and met her gaze, they both suddenly asked in sync.

“What are you doing here?”

A wide grin appeared on both lips.

“This is not the kind of place you usually hang out,” Kevin started.

“Yeah. My first time here and also not planning to visit any time soon. Jackson brought me here, and you? Is this the kind of place you hang out?” Alice asked.

“No. Jackson called me. He saw my sister. I did not ask any further and hurry over as fast as I could.”

“Yeah. What is your sister doing here? When I pulled this scumbag away from her, I remember she said something about her boyfriend.”

“Boyfriend?”

Alice looked at his horrified expression. It seems he was not aware of this. ‘This is going to be fun.’ Alice thought to herself.

“Come on. Let’s go see who he is.”

Kevin led her toward the bar never leaving her hand for one second. Alice stared at their entwined fingers. Feeling like she finally belongs. She finally found what she longed for, for all those years. Even if it lasted for a second, a year, or a lifetime she would make each moment count.

They met Jackson at the door also on his way out towards them.

Jackson tilted his head. He looked at the sight in front of him. He took two steps back and caught their entwined hands. Alice looked at Jackson’s face. For an instant, she could not configure his expression. She did not want to lose her partner. They worked well together, and she knew he was someone she could trust. Alice never cared about what anyone thought or said of her, but at that moment a strange feeling filled her heart. For the first time, she felt afraid that Jackson would not approve of her and Kevin.

She looked at Kevin and saw him with the same expression as Jackson. Both were staring at each other without saying a word.

“It’s about fucking time!” Jackson shouted. He stepped forward and side-hugged Kevin, both smiling.

“It’s good to see you, Jackson,” Kevin said as he pulled back.

“Yeah. I know. I have that effect on people.”

Kevin chuckled. “Still as arrogant as ever.”

Jackson chuckled. Alice looked back and forth at the two with a frown.

“Shit man. What type of men do you allow around your sister?” Jackson asked. His demeanor changed to serious.

The smile on Kevin’s face instantly disappeared, “I do not let any man near my sister except for my man who I arrange to protect her. Please be more specific with your words Jackson.”

“I am not fucking with you, Kevin. Your sister just left with Luca Canali. This is no joke.”

“What?” Kevin shouted. Attracting the attention of those around them.

“Yes. That is why I phoned you. I knew you would never allow that. What is your sister doing with your enemy?”

Alice was also beyond shocked when she heard Luca Canali. Luca was the eldest brother of the Canali family. He was one good-looking man but extremely ruthless.
