Chapter 30

Maisie thought she would never get the chance to meet Alice. It was like seeing a role model in front of her. I have heard so many stories about her. She was ruthless showed no fear and did not take shit from anyone. Maisie stared amazed at Alice as she dragged the man outside. Maisie looked at Jackson as he casually walked toward the bar unbothered about whatever was happening outside. ‘I have seen this guy before’ Maisie thought to herself but did not linger on that thought when she shifted her gaze to Luca who exited the bathroom. How was it possible to feel so head over heels in love with this man?’ Maisie felt her heartbeat picking up just by watching him walk toward her. When Maisie stared at Luca, she saw her heart. Knowing it sounded stupid, but Maisie could not help herself she was stupidly, utterly smitten in love with him.

Maisie watch Luca's expression change looking deep in thought.

Luca frowned as he caught a glimpse of Jackson who walked toward the bar. He looked at Maisie and she was smiling back at him.

Luca held his hand out to her as he stopped beside her.

“Everything okay?” He asked as he glance at Jackson and then back at Maisie.

Maisie's eyes never left his. She smiled up at him, “Yes.”

“Okay. I think we should go.”

Maisie took his hand and he help her stand up.

Maisie looked confused at the door and then at him. “But aren’t we waiting on your friend?”

“No, He send me a message while I was in the restroom. Something came up, he will not be able to make it.”

“Oh Yeah. I need to thank Alice. Some scumbag came on to me and she is beating the crap out of him outside.”

Hearing Alice’s name Luca’s expression darkened. “We need to go now!”

“But-”

Luca pulled Maisie out of the bar toward his car. He quickly opened the passenger door, shoved her inside, a little bit too rough which caught Maisie off guard. Luca quickly rushed around the car, got behind the searing wheel, and drove off not even making sure Maisie's seatbelt was fastened. Luca drove recklessly. Maisie grabbed the dashboard as she was roughly shifting around. She quickly grabbed her safety belt and fasten herself. Maisie held onto the seat belt and glace back and forth at Luca and the road. This side of him was foreign to her. ‘What made him so upset, he was fine just a minute ago.’

“Luca are you…”

“SHUT UP - JUST SHUT THE FUCKING UP and let me think for one darn second,” Luca screamed as he glared at her. The fierceness in his eyes made her tremble. Luca held his stare on her for a few seconds, then looked back to the road in front of him.

Maisie held her breath staring at the road as they raced through the street in an unknown direction. This was not the way to her house or his, where is he taking her?’ Maisie thought to herself.

She noticed Luca taking out the phone and dialing a number.

“Carlo. We are on our way, YES NOW!” Luca yelled then threw their phone on the dashboard not bothering to decrease his speed.

Maisie tightened her grip on her seat. She never felt fear before but at that moment she felt like the guy who sat beside her was a stranger.

“I - I want to go home. Please take me home.” Maisie managed to get the words out that she wanted to say for the last few minutes.

Luca jerked his head toward her. She instantly pulled back into her seat. How was it possible for someone to change so fast?

“Luca, what did I do to anger you so much? Please. stop it, you are scaring me.” Maisie begged. She could not contain the sob that escaped her lips.

She instantly regretted it when she watched his jaw clench. She noticed his grip around the steering wheel tightened. He glared at her for a second then turned his focus back to the road.

Maisie could feel that what would happen next, she did not want to be a part of. She glanced at Luca to make sure his attention was still on the road. Masie fumbled with her jean pocket and slowly slit her phone out. She held her phone on the head on the side of her leg and glanced down at it as she tapped on her messages. She entered Kevin's name and texted him with her thumb.

“HELP! LUCA CA.”

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?”

“Nothing.” She replied and pressed send as she shoved the phone underneath her legs.

Luca glanced at her, then at the road. He reached over her and grabbed the phone out from underneath her leg. He looked at the road and then at the phone.

“You send your brother a message!” It was more a statement than a question. Luca tightened his grip on the phone. His face crushed up in anger.

Maisie's head slammed against the window. She heard the singing sound echoing in her ears. Maisie wiped the droplets of blood that ran along her lip away with her thumb, then let her tongue run over the cut. Her hair covered the side of her face shielding her view from Luca. She tightened her eyes trying to block out the dizziness that wanted to overtake her. The last thing she heard was Luca sneering before she lost consciousness.

‘That's the thing about being in love, we choose to not see the other person’s bad side. Unfortunately, when reality comes, it hit us unexpectedly with so much force we tend not to be strong enough to handle it. Because the worst thing in life is a broken heart.’
