“Why didn’t you leave with them?” asked Eric whose hand was holding onto Ruby’s bloodstained hand.

“Who?”

“With the rest of the team?”

“Well, just consider me saving your life, for the loaf of bread you gave me.”

Eric can remember clearly that day. It felt as if it was yesterday. He saw Ruby on the ground at the bottom of the Forbidden Mountain. She was a small, tiny girl, roughly around the age of five. Curled in a ball against the heavy snow, she lay on the frozen floor. He could hear her stomach growling. Reaching into his bag he took out a loaf of bread. Looking at her, he handed her the bread.

He smiled as he recalled Ruby's blue eyes shimmering at him. She took the bread from him and split it in half. She handed him the other half. Eric shook his head and pushed her tiny hand back to her.
