GYM

GYM

Honestly, what would I do without my map? I thought as I maneuvered my way, trying to locate the ladies locker room, when I stumbled into someone.

"Hello." I called out to her, "I think I'm lost."

"Oh! Hi." She replied smiling. "Where are you headed?"

"The ladies locker room. I have gym in like ten minutes." I said, secretly admiring her long legs and auburn hair.

She had warm hazel eyes and spotted freckles on her cheeks. Her nose were long and pointed, I wondered what her boyfriend went through whenever they tried to kiss. he probably had long nose like hers, I though and shrugged.

"Right." She grinned, drawing my attention to the braces she wore. "I'm headed there too. My name's Ruby."

"I'm Steyn." I replied, thinking of how nice she sounded. "Nice to cross paths with you, Ruby."

"I know your name." She smiled. "You probably didn't notice, but we shared the same homeroom and biology class together."

"Not to make you feel bad." I said apologetically, after trying unsuccessfully to place her face in my head from homeroom. "I know I should recall meeting you, but it's not clicking."

She laughed throatily. "It's alright. I'm not offended. Just for asking sake, you're new right?" She asked.

I shrugged. "Ain't that obvious enough?" I replied grinning and pointing the map in her face for emphasis. "My mum is a private nurse, got transferred here from Russia."

"That's cool. I'm originally from Gryffindor in New Jersey. I practically know everything about this little town." She wrinkled her nose like it was something bad. "I think we'd make good friends, you know?"

"Right." I replied, not thinking about anything. I didn't even know how long my mum was going to to stay here.

We soon arrived at a door with the inscription 'LADIES LOCKER ROOM' boldly written in italics.

Ruby pushed the door open and escorted me through an adjoining door.

"We are here." She sang, making me smile.

It didn't take me moments to change into my gym clothes when I found my locker.

It was your regular track suit and a sports bra that had the school's name crested on the left breast.

When I was done putting it on, I smiled, realizing that I liked it. It was a proper and perfect fit. I looked good, if anything, dashing.

I looked my self over again in the adjoining mirror. I wasn't much of a front person, but I had a backside that could put Billie to shame.

I looked up to find Jenner staring back at me through the mirror. "There's not much to look at now, is there?" She sneered.

Jenner.

"Hello Jenner." I replied simply.

"Move away skunk." She eyed me, "I'm in need of the mirror."

I rolled my eyes and scoffed.

"There's always a plastic doll in every school. She and her gang." I muttered under my breath.

"What did you say?" She pulled me back by my sports bra.

"I said, there's always a plastic doll in every school, she and her group of fake friend's." I replied not mincing words. "Is there any problem with that? Or you want to add something."

I caught on very fast when she raised up her hand to slap me.

I held her hands in mid air and sneered in her face.

"Don't ever try that shit of thinking you can hit me ever again. Normally, I don't tolerate it, but for today, I'm willing to make an exception for you." I told her.

Grabbing my sweatshirt, I threw it over my shoulders and grabbed my water bottle, walking out the door with Ruby behind me.

"No one ever stands up to Jenner like that. I mean no one." Ruby said, excitement laced in her tone. "That was cool."

"If she goes around treating people like thrash, she should be put where she belongs." I told her. "Who's she anyway?'

"Her daddy's a senator." Ruby told me.

"That's insane. It's not even enough reason for people to let her walk over them like they're Some piece of thrash." I told her. "I don't like it when people behave like asses. They should stick up their shit in their butt hole."

She shrugged when we entered the Gym, letting her bag slide off her shoulders to the floor. "I've never really had the moral." She said quietly. "Not that I've ever been picked on. It's difficult to understand why Jenner and her croons pick on newbie's."

"It's simple. No one's ever put them in their place." I told her quietly.

"Alright everyone." The coach said energetically like he had been waiting for this moment to happen. "Stand in a long file."

We did as he said. Stand in a long file. Ruby was in my front.

One thing that I didn't understand was the envious stares people where giving me. Did I have some heavy duty carat gold on my ear?

"Pair up yourselves in two's. You and the person in front of you." He said again.

Luckily for me, I had Ruby in my front which automatically made her my partner.

"Remember that whomever you pick remains your gym partner throughout the session." He warned.

"Do you have other friends?" I asked Ruby.

"I did. Emily Houston." She told me.

"Okay! It's time for warmups." He bellowed, taking out his whistle. "We'd start with jumping jack."

"Emily Houston?" I asked again, trying to recall where I had heard that name. "What happened. She left?" I asked between breaths.

"Yeah. She left." Ruby smiled. "She was very intelligent and one of the brightest student we've ever had."

And then it clicked. What I was trying to remember.

She was the Emily Houston someone mentioned in class earlier this morning. There was more to this story. I could tell from the way Ruby talked about her without meeting my eyes.

"Right." I dropped the topic. "You're much of a sports person?" I asked her.

"Yeah." She replied, standing at attention to show me her toned body and trimmed stomach.

"How about you?" She asked me.

"That's like handing me a death sentence." I laughed. "I'm not much of a sports person, but I do excercise when necessary." I told her.

"That's about to change." She told me.

I laughed. "And why is that?"

"You have me. All of my friends Gym." She told me.

I liked her. I thought.

"Have you met the Grace's of Gryffindor?" She asked me.

"That's like what?" I asked.

"The Grace's of Gryffindor, duh!" She said like it was unbelievable. "You've been in this like for what?"

"Two weeks." I replied.

"That's enough to have heard about them."

"That's cliche. Who calls anyone Grace's in this meta age?" I asked, looking amused. "Well, I haven't."

"You have tho." She said.

"I have? Tell me." I asked. Curiosity sparkling in my eyes.
