STEYN

STEYN

"Nice of you to join us, Steyn Robert." The bored looking middle aged woman sang, the minute I stepped foot in Biology class. "I heard you make it a habit of going to class late."

I shrugged. "I'm a new student ma. I'm not supposed to know all the hallways on my first day at school. I'm sorry all the same."

"Such a rattle mouth!" She muttered under her breath. "Before you sit, you'll answer one question, if you can't, you'll stand outside till my class it's over."

I shrugged and just kept mute.

"What substance is the hardest in the human body?" She asked.

"The dentine." I smirked. "The dentine is the hardest substance in the body of a mammal. Can I sit now?"

"Ofcourse." She smiled. "Take the seat by Mr. Dawson.'

"A new nerd?" Someone cajoled from the back.

"Should we tell her about Emily houston?" Someone else piped in.

For whatever reason that last comment, incited bouts of laughter from the whole class.

I clenched and unclenched my fist. They didn't know the kind of stuff I was made from.

The projector came up with the topic skeletal and muscular systems boldly written on it.

"Before you ask, it's page 504, and I'm Luke Dawson." My sit partner said, warmth in his tone.

I sat down and turned to exchange pleasantries only to come in contact with a shocker. The words died in my mouth, when I realized who it was.

"You!!" I said instead.

It was the same guy from earlier. The one with Walker! The rude PA. Why did I have to bump into them?

Wait. This was some kind of set-up? I thought.

"What a good name for a bad character." I smirked and muttered under my breath, "Your parent's probably didn't know you'll turn out this bad."

"You said something?" He asked me.

"I said, what a waste of a name." I replied sarcastically.

"Don't be too quick to judge, Steyn." He drawled out my name slowly.

"Typical playboy." I scoffed.

"I heard that." He replied

"I wasn't trying to hide the fact." I retorted, pulling out my Biology textbook and flipping over to the page. I scoffed. It wasn't a shitty page.

Biology was definitely very interesting, I thought as I delved deeper into the day's lesson. Keyword, I thought, until my hair was yanked.back with a force that was too purposeful to be a mistake.

It was too hard to be a mistake. I thought and shrugged letting it slide. It would repeat if it wasn't.

No sooner had the thought left my mind when my hair was yanked again in full force.

"Who did that?" I asked in agitation to Luke.

"What?" He asked, smirking.

"You're too rude." I told him, scoffing.

"You can't just decide that." He laughed. "You just met me."

"First impressions matter a lot." I told him.

"You're too quick to judge." He told me.

"Who yanked my hair?" I asked him.

He was a bit taken aback by my question, and looked surprised even.

"What are you talking about?" He asked me.

"Found a new plaything, luke?" A girl's voice rang two seats from behind.

"Mind your business, Jenner. I'm not the reason Walker broke up with you." He replied, not taking a glance back. "You can find something else to pass on aggression to."

"You seething bastard!" She bellowed.

"You're such a skunk Jenner." He replied.

This time, he turned and seized her up, while I just sat there, minding my business and brooding over the fact that she called me a plaything.

"You and your clique." He laughed in her face, obviously not bothered.

"One would think that a school for the rich has no drama." I muttered.

"Keep thinking that, and I can assure you that catastrophe is your next best friend." He told me.

"Whatever. What I'm trying to understand is why we're sitting together. First it was with Walker and then, you. Seems planned to me." I shrugged, folding my hands underneath my chest.

"I understand." He smirked. "It's always like that with the girls. The first time they sit with either Walker or me, it feels like a dream. Like, who wouldn't want to relieve sitting with a guy this good looking?" He asked.

I turned at that statement and really looked at him. He was breathtaking. I'll give him that. But between him and Walker, Walker was well built. He had eyes that could melt a girl's heart. But, I wouldn't tell him that.

Finally, I heaved as the class came to an end. Biology was my favorite subject, but today's class had enough drama. I wouldn't look at Biology the same way again, I thought and grabbed my bags, ready to flee.

"Wait for me." Luke called out.

I just turned and stared. "Careful what you wish for." I told him.

"My word against me?" He asked, smirking.

"Glad you remember." I retorted, walking out of the door.

The day wasn't over yet and I was already tired. My head was beginning to ache from that pull.

One more class and then lunch. I reminded myself.

"Running somewhere?" A pretty brunette girl stood in my way. Smiling very unfriendly.

"Yeah. I'm late for class." I said, trying to boycott her.

"It can wait." She told me.

I did a double take at that statement. Wondering at the audacity.

"Move away Jenner." Luke said, coming to stand by the door.

Oh. So it was the Jenner girl. I thought. She'd picked the wrong person for her bullying.

"Or what?" She asked, looking from me to Luke.

"I'll make you." I said pushing her aside and brushing past her.

I didn't bother straining my ears to hear what it was Luke had to say to her.

It was a total waste of time. I thought, tracing my way to the path that lead to the gym.
