Chapter 4

Apollo stared at Abel in hopes that he would explain himself.

He also wanted him to say that his accusation was utter nonsense.

But Abel merely rubbed his finger over the card and ordered his assistant to investigate the Lockton family.

Ruth had disappeared for three years, then got into a shotgun marriage the moment she returned to the country. She even got herself a husband whom she had never met before. Abel could not think of any other reason for this behavior other than an accident in the Lockton family.

Kallan nodded respectfully. “Do you want me to investigate what Miss Lockton went through during her three years abroad?”

The information he got yesterday just showed that Ruth went to another country to stay out of trouble. He received no information about what she did during those three years abroad.

“You don’t have to.”

He wanted her to tell him on her own accord.

As Apollo listened to them, he found himself not agreeing to their decision.

He had heard the gist of the situation from the assistant just now. The woman had intentionally scratched his brother’s car and put up an act of mistaking him for someone else later. No matter how he looked at it, she was a master at making men fall for her.

“Are you sure she doesn’t know you?” Everyone in the Imperial City knew that the iconic Rolls Royce belonged to Abel.

Abel pondered over his words. “I’m not entirely sure.”

“Then, why?”

“I intend to continue observing her.” He paused for a moment before saying, “Tell Mrs. Greenwell to pack my bags. I’m moving in with my wife tonight.”

Apollo was stunned speechless.

Ruth went to the hospital to visit her grandfather before she drove to the Lockton family’s mansion.

When she arrived at the mansion, it was already dinner time.

After parking at the gate, Ruth stared at the black gate. There were gold letters printed beside the gate.

[Goldwell]

After Rose Lockton passed away, Callum Goldwell blatantly took over all of the Lockton family’s property with the excuse that Ruth was still too young. He also changed the name of the mansion and brought the apple of his eye and his illegitimate daughter into the house.

Ever since then, Ruth wanted to grow up and get married so that she could reclaim all that her mother left for her.

However, at the most critical point in her life, Luna got together with Caelus.

The daughter of a mistress was as good as her mother when it came to seducing men…

Ruth looked away and strode into the mansion.

When the system told her that she keyed in the wrong password, the anger Ruth had been suppressing burst out like a volcano.

“Not bad. They even changed the password.”

She took out her phone and clicked on an app, then placed her phone over the lock. It unlocked with a click.

The moment she pushed the door open, Ruth clearly heard the laughter in the living hall come to a screeching halt. Immediately after, several pairs of eyes trained on her, as if she was an outsider who had come into the mansion.

Luna shot to her feet and demanded, “How did you get in?”

She realized the error in what she said the moment the words left her mouth. She snapped her mouth shut while Bella Parsons went over to Ruth. “You’re really back, Ruth! Your father called you a few times in the morning, but you didn’t pick up your phone! So, I thought your sister was lying.”

She grabbed Ruth’s hand in a show of cordiality, but the moment she opened her mouth, she started sowing discord. Her words caused Callum’s expression to turn even darker than before.

Ruth stared at the fake kindness on Bella’s face and could not even be bothered to pretend to be cordial with her. She pulled her hand out of her grasp and stared at Luna coldly. “This is my mansion. How do you think I got in?”

Bella was displeased when Ruth ignored her.

However, she was used to pretending to be gentle in front of Callum, so she swallowed her displeasure and tried to mediate the situation with a smile.

“Your sister wasn’t trying to imply anything. We discussed it some time ago and changed the password. Your father called you this morning to tell you about it, but you didn’t pick up the phone.”

“Oh? You discussed it? Who exactly do you think you are to change the Lockton family’s password?”

Her words successfully caused the three people’s expressions to change.

Callum had married into the Lockton family.

This had always made him feel that he was beneath the Lockton family. When Rose finally died, he felt that he could, at long last, stand up tall and become the man of the house without having to care about the Lockton family’s attitude before doing anything.

Over the years, his first love had treated him gently, and his daughter shared a close relationship with him, which allowed him to reclaim some of his pride as a man.

Yet, the moment Ruth came back, all of the pride he reclaimed was crushed to bits.

“Have I been too accepting of your behavior? Is that why you’re so harsh and disrespectful to your elders? I sent you abroad to study for the past three years, yet all you learned is to hurt others with your words?” When he pointed at her and started yelling at her, Luna and Bella felt better.

Ruth was a stupid girl who had never suffered. She should experience how it felt to be betrayed by everyone she knew.

Luna’s eyes sparkled when she thought of something and brought up what had happened earlier with a sad face. “Don’t blame Ruth, Dad. She’s not in a good mood and finds me an eyesore. That’s why she’s venting at us.”

“Speaking of which, tell me. What on earth were you thinking yesterday? How could you do something so cruel to your sister and your brother-in-law? You chased them out at night! Hah! Aren’t you amazing?!”

When his youngest daughter returned home in the morning, a large patch on her arm was burned red, and she was wailing loudly. He had been seething in anger ever since. “Your sister is an actress, who’s going to win an Oscar in the future! You won’t be able to compensate her if you injure her face!”

Ruth cast a glance at Luna’s pitiful look. “She can get plastic surgery. It only costs a few dollars.”

“You little brat—”

“My mother left Purple Cane Apartment to me. I was already showing respect to you by not calling the police to arrest them when I found them fornicating at my place.”

At the sight of her nonchalance and her refusal to be regretful over her actions, Callum was so angry that his hands shook, and he did not know what to say.

However, Ruth did not intend to continue talking to him. She sat down in a lackadaisical fashion on the couch and pulled out a few documents along with a marriage certificate from her handbag. She threw all of them on the tea table. “I’m married. It’s about time for you to return all that belongs to me.”
