Chapter 3

While Ruth was sizing the man up, he was doing the same to her.

After Abel heard her demands, he smiled a little and reached out behind him. “Hand me her documents.”

His assistant had looked Ruth up after she scratched his car, which was why he was able to hand over her documents to Abel so easily at this moment.

Abel swiped through the tablet with a finger while he skimmed through her information. Without even lifting his head once, he said in a clear and awe-inspiring voice, “One hundred thousand is too little. Add a zero behind it. Otherwise, it’s not befitting of Mrs. Blakewell’s status.”

But Ruth did not even pay attention to the words “Mrs. Blakewell”. All she heard was him asking her to add a zero to his allowance, and she scoffed as she thought. “Wow. Gigolos nowadays even act pretentious to impress people?

“But considering his demeanor and face, he really does have the right to be pretentious…

“Still, one million is too much…”

“Three hundred thousand. That’s my final offer. No more, no less!” Even when she was working abroad, she only gave two hundred thousand to Caelus as his monthly allowance!

Serenity told her that even if she had money, she should not be too generous with it. Otherwise, it would be far too easy for her to get scammed.

Abel looked up. With his sharp intuition, he could tell that something was off.

“Who’s giving who an allowance?”

“I’m the boss here. Of course I’m the one giving you an allowance. There’s no way I’d ask you to give me an allowance, is there?”

Abel narrowed his eyes and observed the woman in front of him.

She had an exquisite and enchanting face. When she looked at him, her eyes were full of confidence and pride. She did not look like the other women who were throwing themselves into his arms.

And it did not seem like an act.

He said slowly, “It’s a deal.”

After that, they walked out of the restaurant, and Ruth suddenly stopped at the parking lot.

Abel looked in the direction of her gaze and saw his limited edition Rolls Royce.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing.” Ruth shook her head. “I just saw someone I owe money to.”

Abel stared at her with an unreadable look in his eyes.

His assistant stood by his side, but he did not dare to do anything without his orders.

Ruth took out another note from her bag and wrote down her contact number and name again while mumbling under her breath, “I’ll give you one more chance. I won’t admit to scratching your car after today.”

She stuck the note on the scratch which had still not been painted over before she looked toward Abel and his assistant. “How did you two get here?”

“We—”

“Took a cab over,” Abel said, interrupting his assistant.

The assistant’s mouth twitched, but he still nodded with earnestness. “Yes. We took a cab here.”

“I see.” Ruth then turned to the assistant. “Take a cab home. He’s leaving with me.”

An hour later, Ruth walked out of the City Hall with a marriage certificate in hand. She had also sobered out a bit by then. Her marriage had been a problem plaguing her mind for years, but it was settled now.

It felt like a dream.

Her phone rang. When she saw the name on the screen, her gaze turned colder.

She had not even started taking revenge on them, and they were already seeking her out?

After hanging up, she put on her sunglasses. “Where do you live? I’ll send you back.”

Abel did not know what to say in reply to that.

This was the first time a woman had dragged him into her rhythm. She was so forceful that he did not have a chance to say anything.

Yet her foolishly straightforward nature that drove her to do whatever she wanted without regard for anything was so adorable that he would not have been willing to disrupt her rhythm even if he could.

The eldest daughter of the Lockton family was different from the rumors.

“Shouldn’t we exchange numbers?” He decided to remind her kindly.

Ruth was stunned for a moment. “You’re right.”

They exchanged numbers.

While leaning against the car, Abel saved her number and said coolly, “Also, I don’t think a couple should live in separate places after getting married. Even if we’re only contractually married, we’re still husband and wife.”

“I agree. I’ll send you my address later. You have three days to move over.”

Abel was, once again, struck speechless.

Immediately after Ruth left, a Rolls Royce arrived at the entrance of the City Hall.

The driver got out of the car respectfully and opened the car door.

Once Abel got in, the person sitting at the passenger’s seat peeked at him. “Did you really get married, Abel? You’re honest-to-God married now? You ghosted Miss Lovehart to marry a woman who most definitely faked scratching your car?”

Abel looked down as he toyed with a bank card between his fingers. “She was late. Besides, my new wife is really interesting.”

“Is that so? Didn’t you marry her just because she’s pretty?”

Kallan Berney said nothing as he drove, but he did sneak a peek at the rearview mirror.

Abel leaned against his seat. With his eyes downcast, he did not look as intimidating as he usually was. The morning sun shone through the window and made his cold face look almost gentle.

Even so, his aloof and cold demeanor was still incredibly prominent.

Kallan could not puzzle this out.

Abel was the current head of the Blakewell family and the richest man in Sommerset. He was rich and handsome, so why would he agree to become someone’s sugar baby for a monthly allowance of three hundred thousand?

“She’s pretty and rich,” Kallan corrected Apollo Blakewell.

The moment he said this, Apollo finally noticed the bank card in Abel’s hand. He was stunned for a few seconds before his eyes went wide in shock. “D-Did you seriously become someone’s sugar ba—”

While stuttering, Apollo wanted to pluck the card out of Abel’s hands.

Abel looked at him askance with a cold expression. “Keep your dirty hands to yourself.”

Those words were enough to scare off Apollo. He pulled his hand back.

“Have you lost your mind? Why would you want to earn this sort of money?!” Apollo had still not recovered from the shock of the news.
