27. Overnight at the Hospital

Maria opened her eyes slowly, her body felt very weak. She tried to look around, found Jaccob sleeping on the sofa.

Not wanting to wake Jake, Maria finally tried to get up. His throat was so dry, she felt thirsty. She tried to take the glass on the table beside him.

Inadvertently, the IV line beside him moved, causing a sound that made Jake open his eyes.

Seeing what Maria was doing, made him immediately approach the woman.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"Thirst," said Maria weakly. Her usually red lips looked pale white.

Jake got the glass and helped Maria's bed slightly up. So that Maria can lean back a little.

Maria then drank slowly, she handed the glass back to Jake when the water was half down.

Maria smiled at Jacob. "Thanks, Jake," she said.

Jake smiled back a little, only briefly to make Maria oblivious of it. He glanced at his watch, it was almost dusk. Jake decided to go to the bathroom, took the basin provided
