A classical song that plays from the car's radio fills the comfortable silence that has fallen between Ri and I as he drives me home. I break away from my plaguing thoughts momentarily and notice that Ri seems to be absorbed in his thoughts as he drives.
His eyes are fixated and unblinking as he stares at the road. The passing glare from oncoming car headlights doesn't even seem to bother him. His forehead creased in concentration as his eyebrows knit together and his lips purse as he let out the faintest of sighs.
I was about to ask him what was on his mind but then a familiar street sign came into view making every muscle in my body tense again. The car came to a slow stop in my driveway.
Ri shuts the car engine down and when I'm about to thank him he turns and opens his car door getting out of the car. He walks over to the passenger's side and pulls open my door. I stare at him in confusion.
"I'm coming
My mother is the goddess of the night.Klara is not my aunt.My father's memories of my mother were manipulated.I repeat these three facts in my head hoping that it will somehow sink in for me to understand. Some part of my brain is having a difficult time processing this. The other part of my brain is telling me that Klara's revelations make sense. My life is like a thousand-piece puzzle that has been scattered across the floor. I never paid much attention to the missing pieces or the pieces that didn't make much sense before. I only focused on what was in front of me and I believed everything my aunt told me because I trusted her.Maybe I don't want to accept the fact that my only support structure is not my blood that's why apart of me wants to refuse to believe her. That part that wants to refuse to believe her and the part of me that wants to belie
After detention, I walk out of school with Morgan who is still glaring at Fabian, and Jason. Both Jace's hands are shoved into his hoodie pockets as he walks staring down at the ground. He barely spoke a word since lunch."Jace are you okay?" I ask and he looks up at me offering me the faintest of smiles."Urm..I.." he stutters, struggling to come up with words. "Yes." He looks looks away avoiding my penetrating stare.I'm not one to pester my friends about their problems but looking at Jace like this is making it hard for me not to."Alright," I shrug. He will tell me if he wants to."Angel," Fabian whispers from next to me. "Remember what we discussed earlier," he reminds me, and Jace looks up at us in curiosity."Yeah but you not making it easy," I whisper back."This is why I need you," he says. When we reach the parking lot of the school Morgan s
I lay in my bed waiting for something magical to happen to me. My eyes are closed as I try to focus on my inner energy, but I just can't feel it. It's there but it's not as strong as it used to be.The harsh sunlight shines brightly through my open room window. I open my eyes to catch a glimpse of the rising sun, but the blinding light causes me to shield my eyes and lay back down again.I feel the sun bearing down on me. I feel it to the point where it starts to burn and I can't stand it anymore. I stand from my bed and walk to my windows, shutting it and drawing the curtains to stop the sunlight from pouring into my room.I've been waiting nine days for this day. I feel incomplete like a piece of me just up and vanished. A piece that made me. What was I without my magic. I was human.I walk out of my room and go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take a shower. After I'm done brushing I step int
Dried up grass and broken tombstones cover the landscape from as far as the eye can see. The sound of the howling wind could easily be mistaken as the groans and moans of the dead that slumber below the dense soil. Bats screech as they fly past the pale moon that hides behind passing gray clouds. Their screeching adding to the already eerie atmosphere."I think it's a vampire," Ri says as we walk along the dusty pathway of the graveyard."What if it's dead people.""Five bucks says vampire," he says confidently. Before I can reply a girl's scream rips through the graveyard as she pleads for someone to help her."Somone anyone, please help me. Ahhhh!" That's all we hear for a moment and then the place goes completely silent again. Ri and I share a knowing look before we take off running down the pathway where the screams came from."Holy shit!" Ri says as we stare at the hideous creature in
I chase after her in confusion "Klara," I shout but she doesn't stop she just keeps running up the steps. I stumble trying to run up the steps all kinds of thoughts popping into my head of what that memory could have meant. She goes into her room and stands on her bed. I look at her in confusion as she starts walking to the painting hanging above the bed and takes it down. When she takes the painting down I notice that there are bookshelves that are within the wall. She looks through the shelves and grabs what she is looking for before getting back down on the ground again. I stare at her waiting for her to give me some kind of explanation but she just keeps pacing up and down the room reading from the scroll and mumbling things under her breath."What is that you are reading from?" I ask."It's a diary.""You kept a scroll as a diary?" I ask in confusion. She doesn't say anything instead
Ri drives the car down a narrow road that is surrounded by forestry. Soon a gate comes into view and as the car gets closer to it I notice an intricate sword pattern on the gate.Ri rolls down the window and presses a button on the intercom box. "James open up," he says."With pleasure Mr. Evrad," the man named James says, and the gates part in the center of the sword design. He drives in along the gravel pathway up to a mansion. The house is built with yellow bricks and is designed like a castle."This place is beautiful," I gawk looking out my window. Ri turns off the car's ignition and opens the car doors with a push of a button.Eager to take in my surroundings I jump out of the car. When my foot hits the ground I can hear the crunch of the fresh grass beneath my shoe. The sound of water gets my attention and when I turn it's a fountain. An angel sits in the middle of it as she pours t
I can't feel Orion's energy so that means he hasn't appeared yet. I rush to the end of the bridge. The bridge is guarded by two sentries on either side. The sentry is a being that is cloaked from head to toe and there were often rumors that they were not human, but were created by the goddess of the night herself.I always looked at them from afar. I never went close enough because there was no reason for me to be standing at the end of the bridge. The sentry is tall and looms over me. "Yes," its voice is deep and holds a bit of mystery to it."I want off this bridge," I say so sternly that I don't even recognize my voice. The sentry makes a growling noise as it lowers its head to me."Are you sure? It is suicide for any jumper to leave the bridge.""Yes lift the barrier.""Very well," The sentry does a complicated spell mo
It's been two days since I've seen Ri. He hasn't made the jump for the last two nights and I can't stop thinking about him. The way his eyes turned cold and his jaw clenched when I told him I didn't need him around all the time. I have this constant urge to find him. He is calling out to me subconsciously.I walk to my locker and take out my earphones when I hear Morgan scream for me."Zel hide me!" She screams as she runs down a busy hallway filled with students who all turn their attention to her."Morgan, what happened?" I ask and she pulls me into a vacant classroom and shuts the door."He is looking for me," she whispers."Why don't you just give him an answer," I whisper back."Because I'm so confused Zel I mean it's Fabian he is so unpredictable. He sent a mariachi band to my house Zel. A freaking mariachi band!" she says covering her face with her hands and letting out a groan.
